Sometimes I wish people could see what it really means to be a hairstylist.

Because in one week, I can experience an entire lifetime with my clients.

This week, I grieved alongside a few clients, giving them my own grievances also. And I’m forever thankful for their listening ears ❤️

And somewhere in between all of that, there were laughs, celebrations, exciting news, hard days, new beginnings, and everything in between.

Im often the first to know.

The pregnancy.
The heartbreak.
The loss.
The promotion.
The divorce.
The new relationship.
The diagnosis.
The engagement.
The things they haven’t told anyone else yet.

I sit across from my clients and listen. I celebrate with them. I cry with them. I hold space for them. Sometimes i know what is happening in their lives before their friends and family do.

And the truth is, I see some of my clients more often than we see the people in our own families.

So when someone looks at what I do and thinks, “It’s just hair,” I understand why they might see it that way.

But I don’t.

I know that sometimes I’m not just doing hair.

I’m a safe place.
I’m a shoulder to cry on.
I’m a sounding board.
I’m a cheerleader.
I’m a friend.
I’m a constant in someone’s life through seasons of change.

And somewhere along the way, my clients have become family.

I don’t take that responsibility lightly. Not for one second.

To every person who has sat in my chair, trusted me with your hair, your stories, your tears, your celebrations, and the parts of your life that aren’t always easy to talk about—

Thank you.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for letting me grow alongside you.

I hope you know just how grateful I am.

Because being your hairstylist has never been just a job to me.

This session in the shop unfolded differently than expected. I tackled a major color correction, knowing full well it might necessitate more than one visit. I'm pleased to say that I think we made considerable progress today. Following her beach trip, I’ll fine-tune any lingering issues and work towards reclaiming her natural hue or as close as I can!
