Thank you, Katya B, for this wonderful and detailed review of our Somatics & Sound Alchemy Mini Retreat. Definitely a wonderful compliment coming from a woman who loves to experience wonderful events here and all around the world:
"Deep grounding happened tonight by hugging an ancient tree before the class even started, grounding our bare feet in the grass, doing some movements guided by Terah that were very soothing for the nervous system. This was followed by a very yummy spread of snacks including cheese as well as hummus, some mini muffins as well as some sweet mandarin oranges. Oh the apple cider smelled and tasted so delicious, I had two helpings. Now it was time for Aimee to ground us with a lovely meditation where we let go of what no longer serves us and gather the parts of us that got lost over time. During the sound bath Aimee played the singing bowls while Terah and Wendy walked around with different instruments that are connected with the four directions to give us a more individualized sound experience. The culmination of this two-hour workshop filled my heart with joy and left me feeling blessed. Come join us next time!"

Happy Birthday, Granny! I don't have many pictures of us together but this one was taken at Shoneys in 1998 before I headed to live in Brazil for 6 months. And my brother got me the cardinal decoration. I remember she had Patsy Cline records. I will always tell young folks to try their best to soak in all you can with the healthy loving elders in their lives. Now, I'm like a sponge, seeking their guidance. As I get older, I wonder more and more about her life.
Yesterday's class reflections. I always forget to take pictures of my classes! Yet, wanted to reflect. Had an amazing group of folks yesterday for my Body Melt: Lower Body Tension Release Workshop, which combines stretching, movement, stillness, writing, breath work, self massage tools education, and Somatic Experiencing.
Next, Tuesday is our Somatics & Sound Alchemy Mini Retreat, which will combine body awareness and a sound bath plus refreshments and a chance to getaway to a beautiful lake house ! Link to book: https://square.link/u/bCSOYyxi
Nature, preservation, Guilford Woods, and Somatic Experiencing/ Body Awareness reflections on my walk today in the Guilford Woods.
Scotland 2025 Reflections: Linlithgow. The trip from Edinburgh to Linlithgow takes about 30 minutes by train. Linlithgow Palace is one of the main attractions and is known for being the place where Mary Queen of Scots was born in 1542. I didn't have time to do the tour of the palace because I spent so much time walking the natural areas that lead to it. So why was I here in this small town? Well, I was following my paternal grandfather's maternal line back to Scotland. If you ever spoke with my Opa (grandpa) you would have learned of our Irish lineage, which I hold dear but I never knew much about my Scottish ancestry. Diving deeper into this lineage helped me find my 6th Great Grandmother, Elizabeth, born to Margaret and James, in the mid 1700's. There’s something about walking the same lands that they walked.
There was a nice bread crumb moment where I found Elizabeth’s birth record in the Edinburgh National Archives the day before I traveled to Linlithgow. I paid homage to my Master of Library and Information Science degree on this 2025 Scotland trip as well. It reminded me of my grad school class trip to Ireland for a class about how information is affected during cultural conflict. We visited libraries, archives, museums, and more to study key tumultuous times in Irish history. Before my class started, I visited Cork, Ireland and visited the library there to learn more about the Millstreet and Macroom areas, where the Kelleher family line lived up until the mid 1800's. I also interviewed Belfast librarians of different ages to hear their life and occupational stories. As you can probably tell, Genealogy is a love of mine and this can be a career path that some librarians take but I know I'm fine, at this point, for doing it for myself, but not sure if I am ready to do it for others. I do wonder though how it would be to add this to my future retreat? Of course, it would have to be super specific to people with ancestors from wherever the retreat would be, in this case Scotland. So more to come about how to work that part out.
A year later, it's wonderful to revisit the location and my ancestors.

Weeks ago, I noticed a wounded butterfly in the grass who couldn't fly. I moved it out of the main walking path. I left it there, hoping for the best, but as I entered my door and stood in my kitchen, I couldn't get the little one out of my mind. My heart ached, wondering if it would be ok and if I could do anything else to help. I searched the internet and learned that if their wings are slightly uneven, they can't fly so I'd need to make the other wing even. Imagine me with small nail scissors about to clip a small piece of wing from the other side of an already ailing butterfly! The reputable sourced article assured me that it's like cutting our human hair and wouldn't hurt the winged being. I did it and it still couldn't fly, even though it kept trying. Tears welled up in my eyes, my shoulders collapsed, head fell, and I cried. My jaw going from tense to slack, my breath moving my chest. With blurry eyes, I gazed out of my window, hearing the chirping of birds and the rustling of tree leaves.
Grief is a nuanced and layered aspect of life. It can carry with it rage, wonder, sadness, reverence, and numerous other things. In my 20's and 30's, I mourned but I pushed a lot of it away, feeling slightly numb to it. When losing a loved one, it can be paired with other losses, as if they are all linked. Standing there with my friend, the butterfly, I felt those links and I let myself shed cleansing tears, the kind that bring an exhale, which loosens the jaw and temples.
When the tears cleared, I went walking in the park looking for milkweed or any other plant on the list for the butterfly to eat. I soaked a cotton ball with sugar water and cut a strawberry instead, but it wouldn't eat. Placing the butterfly on my finger, it jumped to the window screen and stayed there, with food nearby just in case it decided to eat, feeling a level of hope. Eventually, I searched the internet for butterfly farms that may help wounded butterflies and messaged them.
At work, the next day, I heard back from them and they said yes, they may be able to help the butterfly. With a full day of clients, I couldn't leave but my niece, Zoe, took the butterfly to All-A-Flutter Farms LLC in High Point and they sent me a message later: "the swallowtail butterfly is in our care. There’s no obvious/visual injury, but it is injured. Even though the wings are chipped it should still be able to fly (which indicates a injury that isn’t visible). Perhaps it was bitten by a spider or other predator. It has been eating and beginning to move around a bit more. We will keep it in a safe enclosure and provide food for as long as it survives."
A dear friend of mine passed recently, her ailing body ready to pass to the next world. We searched for ways to mend her wings...
Since having the experience with this butterfly, I have seen numerous other butterflies, the same kind, the yellow, black, and blue swallowtail, flying free. I smile and say hello.
