You do not have to rush.

Sometimes simply noticing what is here: the tension, the breath, the urge to move, or the quiet beneath it all is all we need.

Many of us have become so accustomed to pushing through that we don’t realize how much our bodies are communicating throughout the day.

Tight shoulders.
A shallow breath.
Restlessness.
Holding.
Numbness.
The feeling that you should be doing something even when there is nothing that needs to be done.

What happens when, instead of immediately trying to change it, you simply notice?

This is part of what I love about somatic work alongside horses.

Horses don’t ask us to hurry.

There is room to slow down.
To feel your feet on the ground.
To notice your breath.
To become curious about what changes when a horse comes closer—or moves away.

Sometimes, in that space, we begin to hear the quieter stories our bodies have been carrying.

Not because we forced something to happen.

But because we finally gave ourselves enough space to notice.

🌿 What do you notice in your body when you allow yourself to slow down?

Photos from Maria Roach's post 09/08/2026

Your body has been listening all along.

The tightness in your shoulders.
The held breath.
The sudden ease when something feels true.

These signals are not problems to fix. They are invitations to become more aware of your lived experience.

Because your story isn’t only held in the things you remember or the words you use to describe your life.

It can also show up in the ways you’ve learned to move through the world.

How quickly you say yes.

How difficult it feels to rest.

How your body responds when someone gets too close.

The urge to make yourself smaller.

The tension that appears when you want to say no.

Or the exhale that comes when you finally feel like you don’t have to take care of everyone else.

These are some of the threads of your somatic story.

And especially for women over 40, there can be something powerful about becoming curious about that story.

What have I learned?
What have I been carrying?
What feels different now?
And what does my body need in this season of my life?

This is part of what we practice in our somatic coaching work alongside horses.

We slow down enough to notice.

Without the story.
Without forcing an answer.
Without trying to immediately change what we find.

Because sometimes awareness itself is where something new begins.

🐴🌿

Your body has been listening all along.
Maybe now is the time to listen back.

Sometimes your mind says , “I’m fine.”

But the body may be telling a different story.

A tightness across your chest.
A jaw that won’t quite soften.
Numbness where you expected to feel something.
A tingling in your hands.
Restless legs.
A breath that never seems to make it all the way down.

These sensations don’t always need to be fixed, explained, or pushed away.

Sometimes they simply need to be noticed.

This is something the horses invite us into so naturally.

They aren’t asking us to explain how we feel.
They aren’t asking us to have the right words.
They meet what is actually present.

And when we slow down beside them, we can begin to do the same.

What am I noticing in my body right now?
Where do I feel it?
What happens if I stay curious instead of judging it?

Not “What’s wrong with me?”

Just…

What is my body telling me beneath “I’m fine”?

Today, I invite you to notice.

Without judgment.
Without needing to change anything.
Without needing to understand it all.

Just notice. 🌿🐴

Ever notice how your entire body takes a deep exhale the moment you stand beside a grazing horse? ✨
It isn’t just your imagination, it’s biology.
Here is what is happening beneath the surface when we share space with horses:
* Nervous System Co-Regulation: As highly perceptive prey animals, horses live entirely in the "here and now," constantly tracking subtle emotional and physiological cues. When we are around a calm, grounded horse, our nervous systems naturally attune to theirs, shifting us out of survival mode and into a shared state of safety.
* Heart Rhythm Coherence: Research shows that being in close proximity to a horse can synchronize our heart rhythms. Their steady presence engages our vagal system, supporting healthier Heart Rate Variability (HRV), slowing our pulse, and bringing our cardiovascular system into balance.
* Neurochemical Shifts: Experiencing safe, attuned connection with horses helps lower the stress hormone cortisol while boosting oxytocin—the hormone responsible for bonding, trust, and openness.
* Living Biofeedback: Horses don’t respond to words, curated masks, or social performance. They respond to authentic, present energy. In a world that constantly demands our mental overdrive, horses invite our bodies to soften, ground, and simply be.
Next time you need to reset, step out of your thoughts, breathe alongside a horse, and let your body remember what true presence feels like. 🌿

There’s a difference between knowing and actually feeling that truth in your body.

You can tell yourself to relax, move on, or stop procrastinating and overthinking.

And still notice that your jaw is tight.
Your shoulders are braced.
Your breath is shallow.
Your body is still preparing for what might happen next.

This is part of what we explore in Somatic Equine-Facilitated Learning.

With horses as partners, we slow things down enough to notice what your body has been holding—without judgment and without needing to have all the right words.

Horses respond to what is happening in the present moment: changes in movement, tension, attention, proximity, and energy. Their feedback can help us become curious about patterns we may not even realize we’re carrying.

Not to force ourselves to be calm.

But to develop more awareness, more choice, and a greater capacity to be present with ourselves.

Sometimes the most powerful parts of our work doesn’t begin with doing.

It begins with watching.

Before stepping into the herd, we spend time observing. Not to analyze the horses, but to notice what comes alive within ourselves.

Who do you notice first?
Who do you feel drawn toward?
Who do you avoid?
What story does your mind immediately begin telling?

“The horse on the outside must feel lonely.”
“That one is the leader.”
“The dark horse looks intimidating.”
“They’re rejecting each other.”

These stories often say as much about our own experiences as they do about the herd.

Our nervous systems are constantly making meaning from the world around us. Many of those narratives were shaped long ago—through relationships, attachment, loss, trauma, or belonging. Without realizing it, we can project those patterns onto the horses.

As we slow down together, something remarkable happens.

We become curious instead of certain.

The “lonely” horse may have chosen that space.
The “leader” may simply be resting.
The horse that felt intimidating may become the first to approach with quiet gentleness.

The herd invites us to question the stories we’ve carried for years.

This isn’t about being right or wrong. It’s about expanding awareness.

When we recognize the narratives our minds create, we gain the freedom to choose new ones—ones rooted in curiosity, compassion, and present-moment experience rather than old survival patterns.

The horses don’t ask us to change.

They simply offer an honest reflection that helps us see ourselves more clearly.

Sometimes the greatest breakthrough begins with quietly standing at the fence, watching a herd… and noticing the story we’re telling.

✨ What is your story?
