Extensions aren’t for everyone… and I’m totally okay with that.

If your natural hair is extremely fragile, your scalp or hair is not able to support the added weight, or you aren’t realistically able to commit to the maintenance they require, extensions may not be the best choice right now.

Sometimes the most professional recommendation I can give you is to wait and work on healing your foundation for stronger growth. Together we can create a plan, and I’ll walk you through every step of the process.

“Will extensions damage my natural hair?”

Unfortunately this is one of the biggest misconceptions I hear from new guests.

The truth is, when installed properly, extensions will actually act to protect your natural hair and (more often than not) allow it to grow past that stubborn length you always struggled to get past before.

The biggest causes of damage with extensions are:

1) They aren’t installed correctly. This could mean that the stylist installed more hair (weight) than your natural hair could safely handle, or that they installed them too tight leaving unnecessary tension on your scalp, causing excessive stress and shedding. If your install hurts after leaving the salon, you’re likely going to run into more problems as it grows out.

2) You aren’t using the recommended products for home care or washing/styling/brushing them properly in between appointments. Extensions can feel low maintenance once you get into a solid home care routine… but there are definitely a few rules you should always follow. That’s why I’ll not only teach you how to properly care for them at home, but I’ll also send out an email with home care reminders you can look back on later as well.

Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours learning and practicing advanced techniques to customize each install to your specific needs. I want each of my guests to be able to feel the confidence boost that comes with having new extensions AND the assurance to know their hair is always protected. The health and integrity of your hair is always my top priority.

One of my favorite things about continuing education is learning the little details that make the biggest difference.

This photo was taken at an advanced keratin bond creation class in Raleigh, where Alex, one of the leading educators in the extension industry, was teaching me how to use a hackle to blend multiple bundles of raw hair together before creating custom K-tips.

Why does that matter?

Because hair isn’t always just one solid color. Most of us have natural highs and lows throughout our hair, and by hand-blending different shades together, I can create K-tip extensions with subtle dimension that disappear into your natural hair. I can also create highlighted or multidimensional looks this way without ever having to put any color or lightener on your natural hair.

It’s a technique I’ve already used for several of my guests, custom mixing multiple shades to create a blend that looks like it grew right out of their scalp.

The best education doesn’t stay in the classroom… it shows up behind the chair, giving my guests luxury results that are more seamless, move naturally, and feel more elevated than ever before.

One of the biggest misconceptions about extensions is that they’re only for adding length. Some of my favorite transformations are for guests who simply want a little more fullness and confidence.

For this guest, we deepened her hair to a rich chocolate brunette for extra shine, then custom-created K-tip extensions to add density and subtle dimension while keeping everything lightweight, comfortable, and incredibly natural. The freedom and flexibility these keratin bonds offer are seriously unmatched.

The best part? After leaving the salon, she texted me to say people couldn’t stop complimenting how healthy and beautiful her hair looked… but no one realized she was wearing extensions.

That’s exactly the goal.

One of the classes I took completely changed the way I think about the products we use every day.

That education made me start asking better questions. Not just about what I was breathing in…. But about what I was putting on my own skin multiple times a day.
