Make-A-Wish trailblaze challenge was yesterday. We hiked over 28.3 miles. (We accidentally took the wrong trail at one point so went over that) It was definitely a challenge. It represents how the child goes through their illness. Starting off in the dark not knowing what to expect, the rest is pushing yourself through pain and wanting to quit. Then we hit the stars where we see the wishes granted and it gives you that boost to finish. The evening before a mom got up to tell their story and wish granted. The part that hit me when she said for a week we got to feel normal. On average it takes $7500 to grant a wish. As of Friday they have raised $350,00 out of the goal of $500,000. It’s been 10 years since I opened my practice. While at times it wasn’t easy I wouldn’t trade it for anything. A lot of you have been with me since the beginning and others more recently. I have treasured our time together and the trust you have in me. Through the years and countless conversations, we have learned a lot about each other and you have all become an important part of my life.
Savannah has been my home for the majority of my life but has never felt like where I belong. After my mom passed and then COVID hit I was just existing, and did what my mom always said: "Make the best out of the situation if you can’t change it". That was what I did, work, work more, and work some more but in the process, I found all of you. You all made each day bearable, I had something to look forward too. When my father passed away in ’21 I realized that summer that I was really unhappy. My father hated where he lived but never did anything to change that and he became very bitter and angry. I did not want that for myself. I don’t hate Savannah it just isn't my happy place and once my mom passed I never wanted to stay. While my mom said make the best out of something you can’t change in this case I was able to change the situation. I decided to do something about it. I knew it wouldn’t be easy but I didn’t want to just exist anymore.
In January of ’22, I sold the home I had lived in for the past 17 years and found a place in North Carolina. Over the past two years, I have felt more like I belong than I ever have and I am happy, happier than I have been in more years than I can remember. I am more active outdoors and socially than I ever have been.
I haven’t minded the drive itself as it gives me time for reflection and listening to audiobooks. It also hasn’t been easy as I haven’t been able to settle into one place, and it's long hours in the car in every week. The thing that has kept me going is you, my clients who have become my friends. I have left other jobs that were easy to walk away from but this has been so difficult. This final break is the hardest part of the journey. I have agonized over this decision but I can’t completely move forward until I do. January 29th is my last day with my business in Savannah. I will be back here every so often and hopefully will see some of you a few more times but I am officially closing my doors.
