She was called to courage, & boy she did not disappoint!

Four years ago I met . Her hair was falling out from chemo, and I had the honor of shaving it. She actually looked AMAZING with a shaved head! Her daughters & I said wait a minute… Joy, you have a beautifully shaped head & this looks good!

After that round of treatment her hair grew back and she kept it fun & lively. Eventually, I got the text from her saying it was falling out again. I remember that day & getting the text… I was at a kids soccer game in Spartanburg, SC before 9am on a Saturday morning. I told her to say no more & to meet me at the salon… And then there was a 3rd time.

It was my honor to be a part of Joy’s journey. She became my friend and we shared our fears, our secrets, the things and people we loved, we laughed, we cried (a lot), and we embraced.
Since meeting her, Joy was always making me feel loved when really she needed to feel loved more. She showed us all what love & spreading joy truly feels & looks like.

July 18, 2024 Joy walked into my salon with the most beautiful hand picked Zinnia’s from her garden. She brought me flowers to tell me that she was at the end of her life on earth. This act of love explains exactly who Joy is… she brought ME the flowers to tell me SHE will brave the end of this life. 8 weeks and 4 days later Joy passed.

Joy, cancer did not win, and you are not defined by it. You won. You won because what we will remember the most about you is your big gorgeous loving heart. I feel fortunate to have experienced your radiating love.

I miss seeing you, I’ll miss our talks about life, your amazing smile, your hugs, your sweet messages, and your light. I am so happy you aren’t fighting anymore. I’m proud of you, & I will say the same thing you last said to me... YOU are LOVED!🦋💜
