Knowing the past is important, it serves as reminders to what not only can happen but has happened. Memorial Day originated after the Civil War, it was originally known we to serve as a tribute from former slaves to union prisoners fallen, they were said to decorate the graves of those whom otherwise wouldn’t be acknowledged or remembered, it was called “decoration day”. It quickly grew into much more as we clearly see in present day.

While most use Memorial Day as a day to celebrate and party, and companies as market strategies to sell, I share so we can all remember that honoring not just the names but the cost of all lives lost in the name of freedom or a cause alike. The best way to honor the fallen is to stand tall and lead and do better than all before us who were lost in what humanity is here for. To the fallen and their memory, the price they paid with their lives, may I, we all will continue to do better with the lives we have.
