I had someone say on another post that they had never seen a placenta photoshoot before. So here you go.
✨ Birth is beautiful, and no two placentas are alike! ✨
I recently had the absolute honor of processing a gorgeous placenta for a sweet local family, and it provided such a fascinating look at birth anatomy that I just had to share!
When this placenta arrived in my workspace, the umbilical cord was completely detached. While that might sound surprising, it’s actually a variation we see from time to time!
During the third stage of labor (the delivery of the placenta), providers sometimes use controlled cord traction a gentle pulling on the cord to help guide the placenta out. However, if the umbilical cord is naturally very thin or has a structural variation, that minor tension can cause it to tear away from its insertion point.
In this specific case, the client had a very thin umbilical cord, and looking closely at the fetal side of the organ, you could see exactly where it cleanly separated.
💡 Fun Fact: Even when a cord detaches or tears during birth, it doesn't impact the incredible nutrients, hormones, and iron stored within the placenta itself. It is still perfectly safe and highly beneficial to process into capsules, tinctures, and keepsakes!
Every single placenta tells the unique story of how a baby was nourished for nine months. I am constantly in awe of what the human body can build, and I am so grateful to the families who trust Carolina Placenta Remedies to care for them during their postpartum journey. ❤️
