Growing up in a big Southern family full of strong-willed, outspoken, quick-witted women who took fierce pride in their looks, Dolly Parton wasn’t just a star, she was the standard.

I was probably about three years old, shaking my little hips to “9 to 5,” putting on lipstick, playing with my grandma’s wigs and sequin tops, and already completely obsessed with anything beauty. Looking back, it’s almost funny how early those little pieces of who I am today were already there. And Dolly was at the center of so much of it.

Dolly famously said that as a little girl, she thought the town tramp was the prettiest thing she’d ever seen with her bleached hair, bright lipstick, high heels, and long nails. Well, my grandma took that doctrine, added her own rhinestones, and treated Dolly’s style as practically the eleventh commandment. 🤣💅

What Dolly inspired in me went far beyond her hair, makeup, jewelry, clothes, curves, and unapologetic glamour. She showed me that beauty, wit, ambition, femininity, and a little Southern sass could all belong in the exact same woman.

That inspiration has followed me through every chapter of my life and is woven into so much of who I am and what I do. She taught generations of women to be unapologetically themselves, work hard, dream big, and never dull their shine.

Losing her feels like losing a piece of my childhood and, in some ways, a piece of my grandma all over again. But the women who inspire us most leave pieces of themselves behind in the things we love, the way we carry ourselves, and the dreams we chase.

Here’s to the women who raised us, the women who inspired us, and the icon who shaped us. To big dreams, glamour, rhinestones, and the everlasting magic of Southern beauty.
