What are ingrown hairs:
👉Ingrown hairs are caused by trapped hairs in the hair follicle that have become weakened, diverted, or blocked during the hair growth cycle. The trapped hair continues to grow within the follicle causing painful pressure and inflammation of the follicle.
👉Using a dull or low quality razor contributes to this condition by increasing the need to apply unnecessary pressure in order to achieve a clean shave. This results in micro-tears on the skin that can lead to an overgrowth of skin surrounding the follicle, or blockage of the follicle opening.
👉Ingrown hair will typically occur in areas of the body with a high concentration of dense coarse and/or curly hair, such as the beard, neck, back, or chest. .
👉Men with darker skin tones can develop a condition called psuedofolliculitis, another form of ingrown hairs. This is due to the texture of the hair being thicker, stronger, and tightly curled.
Tips for combating ingrown hair:
🖐 Consult with a licensed skincare professional that properly extract the ingrown hairs and create a skincare regime that will resolve this issue
🖐Prepare the skin properly prior to shaving
🖐Gently exfoliate before shaving. **Weekly enzyme peels from a licensed professional are a perfect solution** Pumpkin enzymes are my fave!
🖐Replace your razor continuously and shave in the correct direction of hair growth
🖐Seal the skin after the shave with a hydrating serum/mask and protective aftershave; this will give the skin a protective barrier against external elements.
