One of the biggest complaints we get, as Hair Colorists, is unwanted warm (red, orange, yellow) tones, when going lighter, as in, wanting to go from dark brown to light brown with no red or orange (this is one of the most requested).

This chart shows what happens to natural hair when it's lightened. Underlying pigments are exposed, which is why brunettes see red or orange tones, and blondes see more yellow or yellow orange tones. It is impossible to avoid this.

As Colorists, we can control it to an extent, but we cannot change nature, so when asking us to lighten your dark brown hair, without ANY warmth in it, please try to go easy on us! We're literally fist fighting nature!
