I recently had the opportunity to attend the best class I’ve taken in my 13 years of doing hair. In typical fashion, I made a new friend, took creepy photos of the instructor, bathed in hair nerd energy, and found a way to insert into my photo collage.

I spent so much of my early career crafting shoulder length and shorter cuts and styles for many of my female clients, but I moved away from primarily shoe hair for time. After a petite hiatus, I am ready to get to chopping locks again - possibly beginning with my own hair! 💁🏼‍♀️ Only time will tell, I guess!

When you want to change your hair color more than a shade or two, you move into a sphere called “transformative coloring.” This type of service typically requires more time, product, and money to safely reach your end goal. It requires extensive hair history knowledge and, depending on where your hair has been over the last 5 years, may not even be feasible. This kind of work is incredibly fun, and it also requires buckets of patience.

For reference: My model (pictured) came to see me in September 2022 to begin our process and we finished our work this month (February 2023). Her before was *not* done by me, but I had access to her hair history. It took about 24 hours, spread over 5 different sessions to completely overhaul her look. She had to lose some length, but we were both really happy with our end result!

Ways to keep your color fresh between appointments:
1. Shampoo less frequently. 2-3 times a week is sufficient.
2. Sun plays into your color. A product with UVA/UVB protection can protect your mane!
3. Keep your tools on a lower heat setting. Thermal damage can fade your color. Make sure to use a heat protectant for any iron work you do!
