Remembering Greenwood Police Officer Don “DJ” Keller

Don Keller, a Patrolman First Class with the Greenwood Police Department, died in the line of duty on May 11, 2026, following a crash during a reported pursuit investigation on East Cambridge Avenue in Greenwood.

Authorities said Keller’s patrol vehicle was involved in a violent head-on collision near North Hospital Street and New Street while responding to a high-speed incident involving a vehicle carrying several young occupants. A blue truck was also involved in the crash.

Emergency responders, Greenwood police officers, Greenwood County deputies, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol rushed to the scene. Witnesses reported that one person was airlifted for medical treatment while two others were taken into custody.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

Following Keller’s death, tributes and condolences poured in across South Carolina, including from Tim Scott, who praised Keller’s dedication, service, and sacrifice to his community.
