The Science of Red Light Treatment
As we mature, our skin is affected by the environment, free radicals and the aging process. Over time, the production of collagen decreases, leaving skin less supple and resulting in an increase in fine lines, wrinkles, skin discoloration and enlarged pores.
When visible red light wavelengths (600-750nm) are absorbed into the skin, receptors stimulate a naturally occurring process in cells resulting in collagen and elastin production. Light therapy simply helps this process, allowing the cells to become more productive. As activity in the cells increases, they are more responsive to topical skincare treatments,
enhancing their effectiveness. Red light treatment activates electron transport, ATP release, blood flow, reactive oxygen species and many other signaling pathways.*
