Do will be different!
An update from Yvonne and Maureen

Coming January 2022 Do, by hair co., will be moving in a new and exciting direction. The owners, Yvonne Maes and Maureen Beleck, will continue to offer excellent hair services to clients but in a more intimate environment. What else will be different about Do? Yoga!

Our space will now offer Yoga, taught in group and private classes, as well as yoga therapy and various workshops. This will not be calisthenic or power yoga but authentic yoga taught in the Viniyoga tradition. Yvonne has spent four years and 1000 hrs of training in California studying to become a certified Viniyoga teacher and therapist, and has been working in this capacity for the past five years. Please go to yogayvonne.com for more details about this tradition of yoga. Viniyoga is breath centric, more mindful and helps to create a level of focus and awareness. In a therapeutic application, Viniyoga can be used to treat a variety of conditions whether they be structural, physiological, emotional or spiritual. Yvonne has also just completed 300hrs of study in Yoga philosophy through Embodied Philosophy out of NYC.

Just to note that hair services and yoga will be offered on separate days and times.

We were only 24 years old when we decided to open a hair salon in Grosse Pointe Park back in 1986. Our goal was to create a concept of offering contemporary hair designs while still providing classic looks. The Grosse Pointe News deemed us “the porcelain skinned, black clothed stylists at Do, by hair co." 🙂

Over the last 35 years we have received two beautification awards and have had three separate locations in the Park. We celebrated and showcased our talents in various ways including hair shows in the salon window front, catwalks on Kercheval; events celebrating our success that featured over three decades of styles through dance, design and hair styling.

We have always felt a connection to the Park. Giving back to the community with fundraising to support animal anti-cruelty, helping the homeless and adopting families at Christmas. Sharing has always been a part of Do.

Since the start of our mentorship program in the 1990’s, we have trained many cosmetology school graduates with our advanced education program, transforming them into professional hairstylists. We are proud of the amazing women and men we have had the pleasure of working with.

As we move forward into 2022 we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the amazing clients that have supported us over the past 35 years. We are looking forward to the future with all of you!

MANDATE EXTENSION


May 4, 2020

Hello once again,

We are waiting for you! Hopefully this is the last email we will have to send regarding rescheduling of your appointments. We of course continue to wish you are all staying healthy and strong. The mandate for closure of the salon has been extended til May 28th.

While waiting we have been working to put measures in place securing the safety of our clients and staff. It will be mandatory that all clients bring a mask (the type that wraps around the back of the ears) while receiving services in the salon. Masks will also be worn by all staff members. We have changed our schedules so all the stylists will not be in the salon at the same time as well as spacing clients' appointments for efficient social distancing. The stations will be sanitized between services, as well as all equipment being used. We will also be asking clients to wait either in their car or outside, until the stylist can sanitize their station and then text that they are ready for you to enter the salon. Upon entry temperatures will be taken as well as hand sanitization provided.

We are confident that these measures will create the safe enviroment required at this time, for everyone.

Hang in there, we are getting closer. As soon as we have a definite date of opening your stylist will be contacting you. Thanks for your continued patience. We miss you all so very much.

Hello again,

We were so close and now we have to wait a few more weeks. We are desperately hoping to reopen on May 16, 2020 while continuing to wait for updates from the Governor.

As per our last post, if you have a appointment scheduled before May 16th, your stylist will be contacting you. A big thanks to those of you that are able to purchased gift certicates. This option is available on or website.

Our masks are ordered and we are ready to come back with social distancing in place. We will be sending another notice just prior to opening with some other tactics in mind to insure everyone's safety.

Hello Everyone,

Let us begin by saying that we hope you and your family are all doing well, staying safe and keeping healthy.

The latest mandate from the Governor's office has required us to now stay closed until April 30, 2020. Let's hope this will be the last time we will have to inconvenience all of you. You will be contacted by your stylist, if you have an upcoming appointment for rescheduling.

We have received a few calls regarding people's roots getting out of control. There are some root touch-up kits available online and at the drug store. We suggest that you only color your part, and around the hairline. Please note that this could be a good choice for brunettes, however blonde hair is much more complicated and we don't recommend playing with that.

We also wanted to let you all know that we have an option to purchase gift certificates on our website. If you are so inclined.

We certainly hope we will be able to get back to serving you all very soon. Of course sanitary measures will be in place for the safety of you and our staff.
