Right after treatment:
• Mild swelling (lips may look fuller than expected at first)
• Tenderness or soreness at the injection sites
• Redness or small pinpoint marks from the needle/cannula
• Possible bruising (can appear right away or within 1–2 days)
First 24–48 hours:
• Swelling often peaks within this time, sometimes making lips look uneven or “lumpy” — this usually improves as swelling subsides.
• Lips may feel firm or slightly bumpy when you touch them.
• Cold compresses (not ice directly on skin) can help with swelling and bruising.
Days 3–5:
• Swelling and bruising begin to fade.
• Lips start to feel softer and look more natural.
• Any tenderness should ease up.
1–2 weeks:
• Lips usually settle into their final shape.
• Bruising (if present) should be gone.
• Any small lumps or firmness usually smooths out.
Longer term:
• Results typically last 6–12 months depending on the filler used, your metabolism, and lifestyle factors.
• Touch-ups may be needed to maintain the look.
When to call your provider:
• Severe or increasing pain
• Blanching (whitening of the skin) or mottled discoloration
• Significant asymmetry that doesn’t improve after swelling
• Signs of infection (warmth, pus, fever)
