Avoid Sun Exposure When Using Retinol!
"Avoid being in the Sun" cannot be stressed enough.
Retinols can make your skin much more sensitive to UV-Rays and Sunlight. You should put on a very strong SPF (30 or Higher), along with protective clothing or a hat, and limit your time in the sun as much as possible.

Even if you apply Retinol at Night (as recommended) it is best to follow the practices above.

Avoid using "Active Products" with Retinol!

Anything abrasive or any other exfoliates can be harsh on the skin when mixed with a Retinol and can damage the skin by drying it out even farther, causing even more irritation. This would be the opposite of what you would be seeking from using a Retinol!
Something OK to mix would be a Hyaluronic Acid!
Coming the two can combat both fine lines as well as dry skin! The opposite of above!

Less is More when using a Retinol Night Creme!

Using a Retinol can become a part of your nightly routine if you would like it, but its best that you ease into its use by applying only a thin layer once a week, building up gradually to twice a week and so on. Never is there a need to apply more than a thin layer. A Retinol can work just as well when applied thinly, if not even better due to it working well with other products, such as those containing Hyluronic Acid and moisturizers.
Applying too thick can cause your skin to dry out or inflame it. People with darker skin tones are more prone to inflammation and should definitely apply this rule to avoid aggravation.
