When I had my first in the literal *middle* of winter (48 hours old, we had a record ice storm), I dealt with some serious postpartum “baby blues” & really didn’t know that they could be normal due to the shifts in post birth hormones, dropping progesterone & surging prolactin. Did you deal with baby blues? 💙

Hear me out on this one: the word “newborn” doesn’t just apply to the new baby, because a new mom was just born too! 👶🏼

A lot of people (including new & even previous moms) glaze over the fact that birth doesn’t just happen without a A TON of change; physical, emotional, hormonal, & psychological shifts in who we are & how we act. 2 people who were just in one body, are now expected to thrive simultaneously after spending the last 9 months intertwined in every way? Hold on 🤦🏼‍♀️

Before you step into the space of a newly postpartum mom, think about these 4 things :
- Am I here to fill *my* cup, or here to fill hers?
- How can I serve her without directly asking?
- How did I feel when I was freshly postpartum?
- What do I wish someone would have said to me?

Keep Birth Local 💜

Feeling so grateful for this wonderful path I am allowed to walk on with women as they grow their families. Today was the first birth since I have been out since surgery, but also the first birth that I’ve had a student shadowing me. It was a beautiful, quick, daytime birth (very polite might I add 😉) - second baby, first home birth. Both mom and baby did wonderful. Another nuchal hand, but I am not surprised considering I had EIGHT last year, I suppose that’ll be my speciality. I am so incredibly proud of her!
