🧪✨ Continuing education never stops...
This weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the AYU Sunless Master Class, where we explored the science behind spray tanning and the chemistry that takes place within the skin during tan development.
One of my favorite parts of the class was learning about the five layers of the epidermis and the unique role each layer plays in the tanning process. It was fascinating to see how every layer contributes to the final result and reinforces why no two clients develop exactly the same.
We also covered:
🔬 Skin structure and barrier function
🔬 The Maillard reaction that creates a sunless tan
🔬 How pH, temperature, moisture, amino acid availability, and skin condition affect results
🔬 Why higher DHA percentages don't automatically create a darker tan
🔬 The difference between guide color, bronzers, and true DHA development
One of my biggest takeaways from this class was realizing just how much the skin itself influences the final result. We often focus on the solution, but understanding the condition of the skin is just as important. Two people can receive the exact same spray tan solution and achieve completely different outcomes based on what's happening within the skin itself.
That knowledge reinforces something I've always believed: spray tanning is both an art and a science. The more we understand the skin, the better we can customize each tan to the individual client and create beautiful, consistent results.
Beyond the education, one of the best parts of the weekend was getting to connect with so many amazing women in the sunless industry. 💕 It was wonderful meeting talented artists from across the country, sharing experiences, learning from one another, and getting to spend time with my fellow Alabama sunless babes. There is something special about being surrounded by people who are just as passionate about this industry as you are.
