If getting your parent to shower has turned into a daily war, it isn't stubbornness. It's almost always fear.

Bathing with dementia is genuinely frightening — cold air, feeling exposed, unstable footing, water that can feel like an assault, and no memory of why any of it is happening. Fighting it head-on makes it worse every time.

What helps: warm the room before anything else, drop the expectation of a daily full shower and lean on sponge baths in between, hand them control and keep them covered with a towel over the shoulders, skip the loaded word "shower" and fold it into a calm routine, and never rush. Dignity is the whole game here, not the checklist.

Today I had the opportunity to sit in on a care plan meeting for a potential client. As a caregiver and administrator, it’s hard listening to families who genuinely need help but struggle with the cost of homecare.
We all know anything involving healthcare can become extremely expensive, and unfortunately, many families are left trying to figure out how to care for their loved ones while also trying to afford the help they need.
I truly wish that in the near future, there would be more funding and resources specifically for homecare services. Seniors deserve to age safely and comfortably in their own homes, and families deserve to have access to the support they need without feeling financially overwhelmed.
