This is what many providers don’t explain👇

Treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, and IPL work by creating a controlled injury in the skin. As your skin heals, it can stimulate melanin production, which is exactly what we’re trying to manage when treating pigmentation.

During the summer months, you’re naturally exposed to more UV rays, heat, and environmental triggers that can worsen discoloration and make healing more challenging.

Instead of jumping straight into aggressive pigment treatments, we focus on:

🧴 Barrier repair and skin health
🛍️ Medical-grade skincare recommendations
📚 Education on pigment triggers
💬 Personalized consultations
☀️ Sun protection strategies

When the cooler months arrive and your skin is in a better position to heal, we can begin more intensive pigment-focused treatments.

Melasma is a form of skin discoloration that develops when inflammation triggers pigment-producing cells in the skin. While sun exposure is a major contributor, hormonal changes, certain medications, and even heat can also play a significant role.

One common example is chloasma, often referred to as the “mask of pregnancy,” which can develop during pregnancy due to hormonal fluctuations.

Other things that worsen the appearance of melasma:
♨️ Saunas & steam rooms
🏃‍♀️ High-intensity workouts
🧘‍♀️ Hot yoga
💪 Hot Pilates
☀️ Spending time outdoors in warm weather (even with SPF)
🌡️ Any activity that significantly raises your body temperature

Melasma doesn’t look the same on everyone. For some, it may appear as subtle patches of discoloration, while for others it can be much more noticeable. That’s why proper evaluation is so important when creating an effective treatment plan.

At Awaken Aesthetics, we’ve developed a specialized protocol for treating melasma and all forms of pigmentation. Our goal is not only to reverse the signs of it, but also prevent pigmentation in the future.

Comment “PIGMENT” and we’ll send you information about our specialized pigmentation treatment protocol and how we help manage melasma and other forms of hyperpigmentation💗

We see your PIH — and we know most providers don't.

If an aggressive treatment plan burned you before, here's why.
$400 of skincare. Six weeks of tretinoin. A Groupon laser. Why each one fell short for pigment specifically — and what actually works.

On deeper skin tones, the instinct to "go harder" is exactly what backfires. Deeper skin makes more melanin and more melanin means injury from harsh peels, hot lasers, or over-exfoliation can leave darker marks behind instead of clearer skin.

The answer was never stronger. It's smarter — a gentle, customized plan paced to your skin, on a realistic timeline. And if cost has been the wall, PatientFi lets you start now and pay over time.

Skin-first, always.

If your pigmentation isn’t responding — you’re probably treating the wrong thing.

The 3 most common types we see:
✨ Melasma
☀️ Sun Damage
🩹 Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

Each has a different cause, which means each requires a different treatment approach.

Melasma, sun damage, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) look identical to the eye — and they need three different treatment paths. The wrong treatment — especially something too aggressive — can leave pigment darker, not clearer.

Don't treat blind.

So we look first. We figure out what we're actually working with, then build a measured plan that fits your skin and the season.
