Successful independent learning requires strong cognitive skills. Let us help you strengthen them!
Successful independent learning requires strong cognitive skills like memory, comprehension, and processing speed, so that reading, writing, math, and test taking are easier.\nAt LearningRx, our training programs target and strengthen these skills with individualized training using a series of intense (but fun!) mental exercises that support the way the brain learns, thinks, remembers, and performs. Our approach is unique and effective because clients work one-on-one with their own personal trainer.

Whether you've been homeschooling for years or just started this fall, if reading is still a struggle, you're not doing anything wrong.
Some kids need more than a new curriculum or more practice time. When reading struggles persist despite your best efforts, it's often because a underlying skill like phonemic awareness, memory, or processing speed needs to be strengthened first.
New to homeschooling and not sure where to turn without a school's reading specialist or IEP support? We can help you figure out what's really going on.
Been at this a while and still hitting walls? It's not too late to find the root cause.

If you're nodding along to any of these, you're not alone:
โ๏ธ Homework that should take 20 minutes takes two hours
๐ Your child is smart, but reading, focus, or memory just aren't clicking
๐ They've started saying "I'm just not good at school"
๐ You've tried more tutoring, more reminders, more routines, and it's still a struggle
๐ Teachers say "they have so much potential" but the grades don't show it
Here's the thing: when learning feels hard, it's often not about effort or intelligence. It can come down to underlying cognitive skills like attention, memory, processing speed, and reasoning. These are the skills that make learning feel easier (or harder).

When schoolwork triggers meltdowns, stalling, or "I can't do this" overwhelm, it's usually because an underlying skill (like memory, attention, or processing speed) is working overtime just to keep up.
It's not about the behavior; it's about understanding what skill is lacking.
If this sounds like your kid, let's talk. We help families figure out why learning feels so hard and build a plan to make it easier. ๐ Link in bio to schedule a free call!

We love that "a-ha" moment parents have often shared with us after their child has been through one of our programs...
"It's like a lightbulb turned on."
"They're a different kid."
"They're trying things they'd never have the confidence to try before."
๐Statements like these that we hear every single day are a reflection of something we know: the brain can change. And when the brain changes, it impacts more than just academics.

If any of these sound familiar, you're not failing; you're paying attention. And paying attention is exactly what makes a gap solvable.

Some days it's the meltdown over a math page that should've taken ten minutes. Some days it's the quiet comparison to a kid who's "so far ahead." Some days it's just... the weight of being the only one making every call.
You didn't sign up to feel like you're failing. You signed up because you believed you could do right by your kid โ and most days, you are.
๐The hard part usually isn't the homeschooling itself. It's not knowing why something that should be simple keeps turning into a fight.
More often than not, that's not a "you" problem or even a curriculum problem. It's an unidentified gap in a skill like attention, memory, or processing speed quietly making everyday tasks harder than they need to be.
You don't have to keep guessing at what's going on. A cognitive skills assessment can show you exactly where the friction is coming from, so the hard parts get easier for both of you.

The fear doesn't show up because you're doing it wrong. It shows up because you're paying attention.
Parents who homeschool see everything (every stumble, every good day, every bad one) in a way a parent with a kid at traditional school simply doesn't get to. That's not a flaw in the decision. It's the tradeoff. More visibility means more moments that feel like evidence against yourself, even when they're not.
The kids we work with who are labeled "behind" almost never turn out to have a "homeschooling" problem. They have a specific, findable gap in a skill like attention, memory, or processing speed that would've shown up no matter where they went to school.
So if you're circling the same worry at 11pm, try turning it into a question instead of a verdict: what, specifically, is this actually about? Once you can name it, it stops being a referendum on your choices and starts being something you can act on.
That's the whole point of an assessment: not to confirm your fear, but to replace it with an answer and a path forward.
Hint: Reading and learning weren't the only things that improved. ๐
When you get at the root of what's making a child or adult frustrated with learning or causing them to shut down or get overwhelmed, it's amazing to watch the changes that pop up even where you don't expect them.
LearningRx supports kids and adults to train cognitive skills that support focus, reading, learning, memory, and more. If you have a child who's frustrated (or if you've gone years, just "getting by"), understanding cognitive skills could make all the difference.

Of all the unspoken beliefs in this series, this one probably hits the deepest.
Doubt creeps in when we see our kids struggling: are we doing them wrong?
Hear this: we are firm believers that homeschooling is an amazing educational approach. Who better to educate a child than a loving parent who has their unique best interests in mind?
But we also don't want to minimize how hard it is. If you're in that season of doubt right now, check out this blog for some encouragement and tools to help: https://shorturl.at/a8EEa
