This client has been with me since 2020, and she’s been coming back for a color boost just about every year since. ❤️

You can really see in the before how much her brows had faded over time and how the color had shifted to a much ashier tone.

Permanent makeup is just that… permanent — but the color is not. It naturally fades and changes over time with your skin, sun exposure, skincare, and everyday life.

The goal of a color boost is to refresh what’s already there, bring the color back to life, and keep your brows looking soft and natural rather than waiting until they completely disappear.

Years later, and we’re still keeping these brows looking good.

Lip sessions can go one of two ways: full lip color for a lipstick-like finish, or Lip Blushing for soft, subtle definition. 💋

For this beautiful client, we went with Lip Blushing for just a little pop & a little pout. 👄

Her natural border and Cupid’s bow are now more defined, while that pretty little peachy tone gives her lips a delicate, sheer wash of color—enhancing what she already has without looking like she’s wearing lipstick.

And now we wait for the magic of the healing process! ✨

So, I have been researching and asking a lot of questions on how to fix this issue and why it’s even happening in the first place. 🎨 Color Correction — Old Permanent Makeup

A new client came to me with old permanent makeup done by another artist, and I want to be very upfront about something: not every set of old PMU is a candidate for color correction.

As an artist, I am EXTREMELY selective about the outside work I’m willing to take on. Sometimes removal is the better—and safer—option, and sometimes correction is possible. It all depends on what’s underneath the skin.

Color corrections are usually a multi-step process, and every next step depends on how the previous step heals. There’s no “one session fixes all” approach when working with old permanent makeup. 🤎

So, what were we working with?

COLOR:
The majority of the old pigment had faded to a purple/grayish hue. If you zoom in closely, you can even see a subtle orangey halo around some of the purple.

SHAPE:
There’s also quite a bit to address here—the edges are uneven, the bulbs of the brows are asymmetrical, and one arch needs a little more rounding out.

But we’re not trying to tackle everything at once. 👏🏼

STEP 1: Neutralizing the purple 💛

Today, our goal was simply to correct the unwanted purple tones.

I used a straight yellow corrector to neutralize the purple. Right now, the brows look noticeably warmer/oranger—and that is EXPECTED. Between the yellow pigment and the skin’s initial inflammation, they can look much more intense immediately after the procedure.

Once healed, I expect these to settle into a much softer, warm brown.

Then we reassess.

If they heal as expected, we can move on to color matching and addressing the shape concerns in the next step.

This is why color correction requires patience, experience, and a plan. We don’t chase every problem in one appointment—we correct, heal, reassess, and build from there. ✨

This beautiful client came in with previous permanent makeup (not my work) that had faded cool and ashy over time. We were able to warm the existing pigment to a rich, deep brown and give her brows new life!

Every set of brows ages differently. A color boost is only appropriate when the existing pigment has faded enough, the shape is still suitable, and the skin is healthy. Some brows need to fade more before they can be refreshed, while others may require a different approach altogether.

I love seeing how the right technique can create such a beautiful, natural-looking result. 🤎
