This is one of the calmer moments we quietly hold onto. Avery is awake here, gently moving his hands and exploring the little things around him — the kind of simple baby moments most parents see every day, but for us, they mean everything. Because of his severe liver failure, his body gets tired easily and depends on medications and careful medical support to stay balanced. When toxin levels are better controlled, he has moments like this — alert, curious, and peaceful. These small stretches tell doctors that his body is coping and responding to care. Right now, stability is the goal. Keeping him comfortable, protecting his energy, and allowing his body to grow stronger while his liver struggles to do its job. I sit beside him and watch these moments closely — the tiny movements, the curiosity, the calm — because they remind me that he’s still just a baby discovering the world in his own way. His liver cannot properly process toxins or nutrients, causing buildup in his body. He will need a liver transplant once he’s strong and stable enough.
