Yesterday, as I celebrated 12 years of J Gibson Salon & Spa, there was one person especially heavy on my heart.

For almost every one of those 12 years, Caitlin was right there beside me. She walked through the doors of JGS as a young stylist, and over the years we did so much more than just work alongside one another. We grew up a little together. We raised kids, walked through family changes, business challenges, salon craziness, celebrations, heartbreaks, laughter, lessons and so many seasons of life.

Over time, life changes people and relationships evolve. We may not have been as close in the last few years as we once were, but that will never erase the history we share or the very special place Caitlin will always hold in my heart.

It has been about a month since she closed the door at JGS for the last time and stepped into a new chapter with her own salon suite. I probably should have written this sooner, but yesterday’s anniversary made me realize just how much of the JGS story she was a part of—and that deserves to be acknowledged.

Caitlin, thank you for giving so many years of your life, talent, loyalty and hard work to J Gibson Salon. Thank you for growing with me, learning with me, teaching me things along the way, loving our salon and helping make it feel like home for so many years.

I truly hope you know that I am proud of you and that I want nothing but success, happiness and peace for you in this next season. I pray God continues to guide you, bless your business and open doors for you that are meant for you.

You are missed. You are loved. And regardless of where life takes us from here, you will always be a part of the J Gibson Salon story—and a very special chapter of mine.

12 years ago today, I remember finishing every inspection and hearing the fire marshal say, “Okay Joyce, you’re open for business.”

I finally had my own building. I had finally taken a dream that had lived in my heart for years and made it a reality.

I had already been in business for several years, renting in a salon suite, but I wanted something more. I didn’t just want a place to work — I wanted to create a home. A place where a team could grow together, where clients could walk through the doors and feel welcomed, loved and cared for, and where relationships could become so much more than appointments on a calendar.

12 years later, I look back and see so many seasons — growth, change, challenges, beautiful memories, people who have come and gone, and countless blessings along the way. Through every season, God has continued to provide, guide and remind me why I started.

Today, I’m simply grateful.

Grateful for another day God has given me.
Grateful for every amazing person I have had the opportunity to work beside.
Grateful for every client who has trusted us, supported us and become part of our salon family.
Grateful for our friends and families who continue to cheer us on.
And incredibly grateful for the Helotes community that has loved and supported J Gibson Salon & Spa for all these years.

What started as a dream became a home, a family and a place filled with so many stories.
