There are two things we generally like to keep out of the barbershop:

🇺🇸 Politics
🙏 Religion

Unfortunately, Lee forgot that little rule this week, and combined both things .

So to anyone who was offended by something said, we’re sorry.

I mean… not really. 🤷🏻‍♂️

But hey, your opinion matters to us. Even if we don’t agree with it.

At the end of the day, we’re here for one thing: to make you look better and feel better when you walk out than you did when you walked in.

So technically two things .

❤️✂️ Lee’s Barbershop — Come in for a haircut. Leave looking and feeling better.

We’ve been waiting a long time to make this announcement…

If everything stays on schedule, August 17th should be a very good day for Lee’s Barbershop.

Let’s just say one of the biggest complaints we’ve heard over the years may finally be disappearing.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed and update everyone as soon as it’s official. 👀

Please keep all of us businesses on 2nd Street in your prayers. Apparently, we don’t know what’s best for ourselves… but luckily, our Lord and Savior, Andy Beshear, does. We’re sure the state has everything under control, and our tax dollars are hard at work.

The six bicycles that ride by our shop each week will finally have their own lane… unless someone parks in it, and then they’ll just merge back into traffic. 😅

All jokes aside, the construction starts soon, and we’d appreciate your support while everyone adjusts. Most importantly, don’t wait until the last minute to book your back-to-school haircut. We fill up fast, and we’d hate for you to be the one saying, “I should’ve made my appointment.”

See y’all at Lee’s Barbershop! 💈

Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming amount of bicycle traffic we’ve had this week, we will not be able to accept any walk-ins today. 🚴🚴🚴

Every chair is currently occupied by cyclists getting fresh fades before their next ride.

Thanks for your understanding. 😂

As a business owner on 2nd Street for the past 16 years, I’m all for making the road safer. I just hope this doesn’t create unnecessary traffic headaches for the thousands of people who use this street every week. From what I’ve seen over 16 years, bicycles are pretty rare compared to the amount of vehicle traffic.”

Reconfiguration of 2nd Street in Henderson Planned
Work scheduled to be completed on Thursday

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin a roadway reconfiguration project on 2nd Street (KY 351) in Henderson on Thursday, designed to improve pedestrian safety, create a more predictable traffic pattern for motorists and provide dedicated space for bicyclists.

Work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 6, weather permitting, along 2nd Street between Green Street and Carlisle Street.

The corridor includes a school and serves neighborhoods, businesses and other destinations that generate regular pedestrian traffic. The project is intended to make it easier and safer for people walking to cross the roadway while continuing to accommodate motorists traveling through the area.

The existing four-lane roadway will be restriped into one 11-foot travel lane in each direction with a dedicated center two-way left-turn lane. A new 4-foot bicycle lane will be added in each direction while maintaining approximately 8 feet of on-street parking along most of the corridor.

The project will be completed through pavement restriping and does not require roadway widening, modification or major construction.

Improving Pedestrian Safety
One of the primary benefits of the new roadway configuration is improving conditions for pedestrians.

Instead of crossing four travel lanes, pedestrians will cross one travel lane in each direction with a center turn lane separating opposing traffic. This simplifies the crossing by reducing the number of moving vehicles pedestrians must monitor at one time. The center turn lane also provides a refuge area for pedestrians who are unable to complete the crossing in a single movement.

The revised layout also improves visibility by reducing lane-changing movements and separating left-turning vehicles from through traffic, making it easier for both drivers and pedestrians to see one another.

These improvements are especially beneficial along a corridor that experiences regular pedestrian activity associated with nearby schools, neighborhoods and local businesses.

Improving Traffic Operations
The center left-turn lane allows motorists preparing to turn into driveways or side streets to move out of the through lane before slowing or stopping. This reduces delays for following traffic and minimizes sudden braking and lane changes.

Traffic studies indicate the corridor's traffic volumes can be accommodated with one travel lane in each direction while maintaining efficient vehicle movement.

Dedicated bicycle lanes provide cyclists with a designated operating space, creating more predictable interactions between bicycles and motor vehicles while preserving existing on-street parking.

Construction Information
The project will primarily consist of restriping the existing pavement and is expected to require only temporary lane closures during the work. Motorists should use caution, watch for crews and equipment, and obey all traffic control devices.

Work schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

KYTC appreciates the public's patience as these improvements are completed.
