STARTING TOMORROW – PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED BY BANKS FOR INDEPENDENT BEAUTY PROFESSIONALS.

All beauty professionals that are independent contractors/self-employed (i.e. not an employee of a salon) will be eligible to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program starting today April 10th.

You will be able to obtain a loan of up to 2.5 months’ worth of earnings. What’s more is that most of this loan will be forgiven. Whatever is forgiven will function like a nontaxable grant. Any remainder of the loan not forgiven will have an interest rate of 1%, due in 2 years with payments deferred until 6 months after you’ve received the money. You’ll need to apply for this loan through your bank so get in touch with them NOW to inquire about whether they are participating in the Paycheck Protection Program. If they will not be participating, Kabbage (an online lending company) is accepting applications as well.

This is a new program, and it is likely that many of you will have questions regarding eligibility. The best resource is to call your bank or search " (bank name) paycheck protection program" for additional details.

Q: How to I apply for the Stimulus Package?

A: No need to apply. You will automatically receive a stimulus based off of your last tax filings. By default, they will base your amount off of your 2018 Tax Filings. If you have already submitted your 2019 taxes, it will be based off of your 2019 income.

A: To avoid penalties, yes. The filing due date has been extended from April 15th, 2020 to July 15th, 2020.

Families First Coronavirus Response Act

Economic Injury Disaster Loans (all Beauty Professionals eligible)

• Provides for loans up to $2,000,000

• Interest rate is 3.75% and the term of the loan is 30 years

• No prepayment penalties, no closing costs, no fees

• Flexible collateral requirements (no collateral required for loans below $25K)

Sick Leave and Expanded Family and Medical Leave (all Beauty Professionals eligible)

• Sick Leave tax credit up to $511 per day for up to 10 days of sick leave (maximum total credit = $5,110)

• Emergency family-leave credit up to $200 per day for up to 50 days (maximum total credit = $10,000)

CARES Act

Paycheck Protection Program (for beauty pros who run a payroll for themselves or employees)

• Provides a loan for 2.5x average monthly payroll costs for the 1-year period prior to the loan

• Loan can be used on payroll, group health benefits, interest on mortgage payments and other debts, rent, and utilties

• The loan will be forgiven (and non-taxable) to the extent of the costs incurred in these categories during the 8 week period after loan origination

Emergency EIDL Grants (all Beauty Professionals eligible)

• Loans for up to $10K that can be funded as soon as 3 days after approval

• You must submit a full Economic Injury Disaster Loan application to be eligible

• Can be used to pay sick leave, maintain payroll costs, pay rent or repayment of business debts that can’t be met due to revenue losses

• Does not need to be repaid even if your EIDL loan application is denied

Other Tax Relief from IRS (applies to all Beauty Professionals)

• Stimulus Checks: $1,200 per taxpayer ($2,400 if married) plus $500 per qualifying child. This is a direct payment that will likely occur during April. It is based on your 2019 income if you’ve already filed your return or your 2018 tax return if you have not yet filed. Checks are reduced for income greater than $75K for individuals and $150K for married folks (likely based on your taxable income per your tax return). No checks will be issued to those who have income greater than $100K single / $200K married.

• Payment and filing of 2019 taxes has been extended to July 15th

• Payment of 2020 Quarterly estimated taxes has also been extended to July 15th (and longer if you qualify for a Sick Leave or Emergency Family-Leave Credit)

• All IRS installment payment plans and payments under an Offer-in-Compromise are suspended until July 15th

• The IRS will generally not start new audits until after July 15th

• Liens and levies will cease to be initiated during the period of April 1st to July 15th
