Public Service Announcement to all my fellow skincare enthusiasts! With the plethora of different butters on the market, there is often confusion over which one is best or whether they are all the same. They definitely are not the same and shouldn't be considered interchangeable.

The two most common butters are Shea and Cocoa, which are both luxurious in their own right. However, its good to know the difference between them and how they should be used.

While cocoa butter smells wonderful, it is waxier and more occlusive because of higher amounts of palmitic, oleic, and stearic acids. These are deeply moisturizing but can form a barrier on the skin trapping dirt, oil, and bacteria in the skin.

Shea Butter contains more linoleic acid and vitamins A and C, which is often better tolerated by the skin and doesn't feel as waxy as cocoa butter.

➡️ So in summary, cocoa butter is great for those rough feet or elbows, and even the ends of hair....but definitely NOT the face. Shea Butter can go on the face and scalp and will be a much less comedogenic option than cocoa butter. 😁
