This is the truth when you come to an acne specialist- your skin is not where you want it to be and what you’re doing currently is not working. That’s the truth.

When you come to us, our goal is to get you the results you want as soon as we can while maintaining skin health and supporting your barrier. Our job is to find the line between protecting you while challenging the skin and making sure you’re happy with your results.

Sometimes purging can occur when we introduce active ingredients. This is when existing comedonal acne comes to the surfaces and becomes inflamed. It unfortunately scares a lot of clients into thinking we’re regressing but I get excited when I see purging because I know we’re closer to seeing your skin goals! It’s actually a great sign that your acne is surfacing. When non-inflamed acne doesn’t come up to the surface or it doesn’t extract easily, that could be an indication of Maturation Arrest Acne which is more difficult to treat (not impossible). Purging is mentally and emotionally exhausting, so my job is also to make sure you don’t lose sight of our end goal- to clear your skin and keep you clear.

So if you’re an acne client and purging scares you from seeing an esthetician, please please please know that it’s only temporary and we want you to clear just as much as you do💜
