Hickory Daily Record post! Listen, come get your hair cut by a Master Barber! There’s no school like the old school! And I’m the headmaster!

Well your favorite barber made both the Newton Observer and Hickory Daily Record! Here’s the Observer post of yours truly! You can save your slow news day jokes cause apparently I am at least a high B list celebrity in the greater Settlemyre Bridge Road area of Newton NC!
There’s a new barber in town | The Observer News Enterprise Harvey Settlemyre knew at an early age that he wanted to be a barber. Born and raised in Newton, he admired the local barbers he knew.

Barbers are not as prevalent as they once were and that’s ok!
We’re a throw back to when men gathered and told tales, caught up on the gossip, and most importantly found a camaraderie with other men. And you left feeling like a million bucks with a fresh haircut and feeling of renewed sense of self.
Think of all the haircuts you got before a big day in your life! A new job, a marriage, a big date, or graduation! Milestones in a man’s life that he remembers for a lifetime. Look sharp, feel sharp, be sharp!
I opened Fairbrook Barber Shop in 1962! And now I’m shutting her down! It’s been a great run! 57 years of cutting hair, making friends, and sending men off with a fresh, new haircut! Off to big dates. To new jobs! To marriages and funerals. To Boot Camp. And off to war.
Now you may think ole Harvey is retiring but if you know me then you know that’s just not me!
So I may be closing Fairbrook Barber Shop but I’m not retiring just yet! Yes sir I’m just moving on. Onwards and upwards!
As of May 1st you can find me still cutting hair but I’ll be at the place I’ve always gotten my hair cut!
I’ll be joining Don Beaver at Hair Connection in Conover, NC.
Yes sir it’s time for a change! Time to for a new place! And time to make new friends!
I hope all my old customers, more old friends really, will take the time and swing by, have a seat in my chair, and we’ll drive on like always!
I turned 86 this past year so I’m what you might call vintage in a lot of ways! Vintage in my occupation and in life. Hell, we Master Barbers are dying breed anyway, but I kinda like that! Like other craftsmen I ply my craft, I take my time, and then I dust you off and send you out to meet life’s challenges! Then I get to hear how it all went when you come back in for a trim.
So come see at the place down in Conover! I’ll be there waiting. I’ll trim you up and catch up on all the news! They say there’s no school like the old school, so I guess that makes me a headmaster of sorts. Still going strong, still cutting hair, and still offering what you just can’t get over at Super Cuts! We're not fancy. We're not Super Cuts, or some other big chain shop.
Fairbrook is as old school, original, know your barber for years as it gets! I've been cutting some folks hair since they were kids. I've seen them grow up, move away, move back, and then cut their kids hair.
Fairbrook is a throwback to the days when a man sat down in my chair, got a cut, a straight razor shave round the neck and ears, dusted off, and I sent them on their way looking sharp and ready to conquer the world!
The traditional barber is a dying art form. A craft that has slowly faded as folks get more fancy, fast paced, and in a hurry. That's ok by me though! I just keep doin what I do.
I know I can offer something you won't find over at Supercuts. A relationship with not only your Barber but with a long held tradition and a shared experience with men who know that feeling that only a fresh hair cut can convey. Better than a crisp new shirt or a new pair of shoes, a fresh haircut is personal. It tells the world that you care about yourself and take pride in what you're selling to the world. You!
I don't care whether your hair is long or short. The nuance of a well manicured man is pride and a sense of self worth.
A real Barber Shop connects one to the tradition of a man wanting to put his best self forward to the world.
Since 1962 I've been sending men off to life's challenges with a fresh haircut. To proms, to college, to job interviews, to big dates, to their weddings, and off to war.
And like I said, it just don't get no more old school than that. I sell confidence that you can go out and shake up the world if you have a mind to with each and every haircut.
So whenever you're ready, come on in and have a seat in my chair. You'll leave with a sharp haircut and just maybe a new found sense of purpose. Because you can never underestimate the motivational power of a fresh haircut!
Hope to see you soon. Harvey
