Certain acrylic liquids containing Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) can create an excessively rigid bond to the natural nail. Because of that rigidity, an impact can potentially cause serious damage to the nail plate, including nail loss. Even more concerning, damage may not always be immediately noticeable.

🙏🏻When applying acrylic to the toes, your technician should be knowledgeable about the products being used, proper application, and safe removal practices.

✅For acrylic toes, proper maintenance and removal are essential. We recommend having the product removed and properly assessed within 10 days, rather than simply filling over it. As the natural nail grows, separation between the enhancement and nail can develop, allowing moisture and bacteria to become trapped. This can contribute to discoloration commonly called a “greenie” and may require professional evaluation.

🚩 A fill-in is not a substitute for proper removal and assessment of acrylic toes. If a salon only offers fills without removing and checking the existing product, consider that a red flag.
