For those who have missed me over the last couple weeks, all I can do is apologize. Mom's situation is the most important thing, and I will always do what I have to in order to help her out as her MPOA, as her son, and as the one who lives closest. We still don't know what the immediate or distant future looks like.
I've done my best, and will continue to get back to everyone who's reached out individually as well, but wanted to make a post bc I haven't been able to know enough to make one lately.
I'll be in the shop today, tmro, and Saturday.
My sister is coming back in to help out.
Below is my personal post about mom's status as of now, in case u haven't seen it:
Here's the best update I can give about Mom (Charlene Cooper). Once her insurance limited her options for rehab upon discharge from Raleigh gen a couple weeks ago, she was at stonerise in Beckley for a few days, each of which she declined...so as her MPOA, Cheryl and I decided to hospitalize her in order to get complete blood work and run tests to rule out any brain event, clots, further complications, etc, to ensure she didn't continue to decline and figure out why she couldn't improve. She is still at Raleigh as of now. She basically has kept pneumonia, and has had bilateral pneumonia for weeks now, due to her diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis. Her lung scans on a good day don't look good. They have permanent damage, some previous and some from the severe viral pneumonia she originally had months ago (when she was on a ventilator at CAMC for 10 days).
She is considered "stable" for now, but we've learned that is a relative term in the medical field. She hasn't been able to be on her feet since before she caught viral pneumonia after her triple bypass. She still has minor swallowing problems from intubation and remains an aspiration risk. Her appetite comes and goes, depending on how she's feeling and what complications are impacting her during this vicious cycle. She has lost a lot of strength and mobility, but her attitude has been good overall, considering all she's been through, and her Faith is strong. She's still our mom, worrying about us while we're trying to look out for her. Other than a few days back and forth being discharged, she's been hospitalized since the 2nd wk of March (that isn't a typo).
Cheryl Cooper Smith and I have done everything we can to help throughout, esp during her times of limited capacity. We've worked with docs, therapists, case workers, nurses, administration, etc to try to get her the best medical attention. We've dealt with incompetency and apathy from the medical providers, who are mostly absentee, calling orders from afar, usually behind the current situation. We've dealt with a couple instances of gross oversight and pure ignorance on the part of docs, bc they aren't held to any standard. We've dealt with lack of communication and cooperation between institutions as she's bounced back and forth. Most frustrating, we've dealt with her crap insurance that still won't approve intensive rehab, now for the 3rd round of hospitalization. We are exhausting all options, and there are still tests and orders in for her at the hospital, while they're pushing for discharge and placement again. We are beyond fed up with that aspect. Cheryl is coming back in to help me out again. Please pray for Mom and our family. We just want her to be given the chance to make progress.
We appreciate all the comments, cards, gifts, well wishes, and especially prayers. Mom is aware of those checking on her during this nightmare.
Reminder to customers that I am not going to be in the shop today, as I am attending my grandma's funeral and spending time with family. I don't plan to be responding today either.
I will be back in Saturday morning for those who haven't caught up with me this wk.
For those who have missed me over the last couple months where I've been in and out, and for any who aren't aware: my mother has been hospitalized since early March, been through a lot of complications, and I've needed to be with her, sometimes for extended periods of time, due to the nature of the circumstances. The last couple weeks I've had to miss some bc my sister had covid and was unable to be assist with all that was going on. I won't go into detail...you can see them on my personal page. I haven't known enough to keep things posted here or at the shop, as it's been day to day.
💈I plan to be in the shop today (Tues), tomorrow (Wed), and Thursday.
I will not be there Friday, bc my mom's mother passed away and we'll be having services. I am unsure after that. I will try to update.
