Comedy Show for Crohns! 12/10/22

December is CROHNS & IBD AWARENESS month. As some of you may know, shop owner and barber Mark Lobiondo was diagnosed with crohns disease back in 2017.
Him and many others deal with this disease and its complications for the rest of their lives because there still is no cure. Thats why we at MDB and our friends , want to bring the community together in a fun way to raise money and awarness for this great cause.

~ An Ode to the Past ~

Lipari’s Barbershop, the infamous barbershop that is portrayed on our previously featured mural, was a staple in the Italian Village section of downtown Jersey City; once known as “Italian Town” or “Little Italy”.

The barbershop was opened by Anthony Lipari, an Italian immigrant, and then taken over by his son (pictured here (right) in the second slide), Anthony Lipari.
This was more than just a barbershop, it was also a hangout spot for locals and people from all around. Lipari Sr. would also house and teach Italian immigrants that had just arrived to the US, while they got settled into their new lives on this foreign land.

At Markdaniel Barbershop we do our best to maintain that feeling of familiarity and camaraderie that shops like Lipari’s had in the old days, while keeping the old school vide, with a touch of modernity.

Justin (age 35)
DOB 3/31

Justin is one of our OG barbers and after a short hiatus he is BACK! He’s worked here for 5 years and he has become intertwined in the Hoboken location’s culture. His personality and his voice are loud - in a good way. There’s always an interesting conversation/debate when you work or get your haircut with him. After getting to know Justin there’s not much he doesn’t do. He’s a writer (has published books), a painter (has painted pictures of the shops), a musician, a carpenter and most recently an entrepreneur. He started his own product company - Anomalous, its quality stuff and you can try it out or pick some up at the shop. He knows a lot of bit about a lot - aka intelligent. He’s also our pseudo shop doctor. We go to him first with all of our ailments. He’s married to the love of his life and they have two beautiful daughters. He’s a die-hard NY Giants fan and doesn’t take too much too seriously. I’m ecstatic to have him back and I know the rest of the team is too. Be on the lookout for his comeback.

Huge congrats to Matt and Amanda on their wedding day. As a barber we cultivate intimate relationships on a daily basis. We connect with people on a deep level in just 30 minutes a month. We celebrate life with our clients. The good times and the bad times, birthdays and funerals; births and weddings. This was one of those haircuts, embedded in time and plastered to pictures forever. Do what you love and love what you do. That is life and this is happiness. #💈 #✂️

I am the owner and a barber at Markdaniel Barbershop. To be frank, I haven’t posted much of anything in a while. If you have been paying attention to our social media content over the years you may have noticed different personalities from time to time. This isn’t a coincidence, in fact it lends credence to the trust I share with my team.

Today marks 1 year that our Jersey City location has been open. The Hoboken location surpassed year 5 in April during our time closed.

I’d like to think I had something to do with these milestones but I would only be kidding myself. I’m only one person and it takes an entire village. 2020 has tested our fortitude in unprecedented ways but some how, some way we made it through. We made it through when we couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, when the future certainties were low and the state of fear high. For this I can only credit the people who work for me. It is the people who make the business. With the right people and the right state of mind anything is possible.

Thank you to my Hoboken team for holding down the fort and thank you to my Jersey City crew for sticking with me through these challenging times. None of this is possible without each of you and all of you.
