Tensor Fascia Lata

This is a larger issue than most of us realize. It has a big issue with leg movement.

*Function:

-Primary function: to assist in walking by stabilizing the pelvis and lower limb

-Hip Flexion: Bending the hip (bringing the knee toward the abdomen)

-Hip Abduction: Moving the leg away from the midline of the body

-Hip Internal Rotation: Rotating the thigh inward

-Knee Stabilization: Tightens the IT band to brace & stabilize the knee

*Common Issues & Symptoms:
The TFL can become tight or strained, often due to prolonged sitting or overuse in activities like running & cycling.

*Symptoms include:

-Pain and soreness in the outer hip joint or down the outside of the thigh.

-Pain when lying on the affected side during sleep.

-Stiffness or difficulty with hip extension (leaning backward).

-Referred pain in the lower back or knee (often associated with IT band syndrome).
