With what conscious are we turning ours on them?

Hey, so doing hair is political.

It is an industry dominated by women.
90% in fact.
If you are a student of Denise Soto, you know that she began TSPA as a tool to empower WOMEN, she has spoken these words.

My ability to work for myself and have MY money go directly into MY bank account is a direct result of progressive women before me FIGHTING for that right for their granddaughters, and it’s political.

And that progressive woman fought, often and loudly for that right in the scowling faces of conservative women who were JUST as oppressed as she was

Hair is political because individual autonomy over one’s identity is the foundation of our jobs.

Hair is political because “recognizing the signs of human trafficking” used to be a continuing education REQUIREMENT in Ohio and human trafficking is political.

Hair is political because accredited Cosmetology programs disproportionately teach WHITE hair over MINORITY hair literally everywhere and do the communities a prejudicial disservice.

Hair is political because the only education I received on ethnic hair in beauty school was the Chris Rock documentary, “Good Hair.”

Good start, perrysburg, but not good enough.

Hair is political whether you like it or not.

Hair is political.

My chair is closed today in observance of the National Shutdown in solidarity with the immigrant community as well as my fellow Americans who’ve lost their lives while standing up for them.
