Have you watched Forgotten Island yet? If you haven't made it to the theater, October is the perfect time, and I promise this one is worth it.
October is Filipino History Month, and I wanted to share why this particular film has stayed with me. It introduces this beautiful concept called Kawa, which is essentially the idea of seeing yourself in others. Growing up in America, I think a lot of us lost touch with that concept without even realizing it. This film reminded me where we came from, and how much our culture and our family shape who we truly are. When I think about shared identity and taking care of one another, it makes sense to me why so many Filipinos become nurses and caregivers. I genuinely believe Kawa is part of the reason we show up for people the way we do. Being here in Hawaii only reinforces that feeling, since everyone around us shares their culture and their food so openly, and it's something I never want us to forget as Filipino Americans.
Supporting films like this one isn't just about watching a good story, it's about telling the industry that our voices and our stories matter enough to keep making space for. Every ticket sold in theaters sends that message loud and clear.
So if you haven't seen it yet, please don't wait for it to come out on TV later. I know everyone wants to save a little money, but watching it in theaters now is how we show filmmakers that these stories deserve to keep being told. Save this post as your reminder, and tell me in the comments if you've seen it yet. I would love to know what stood out to you.

Have you ever wondered why your injector won't just put Botox or filler exactly where your smile lines are? There's actually a really important reason behind it.
One of the most common questions I get is about smile lines and nasolabial folds. People often ask if we can just put Botox directly into those two lines by the mouth. The truth is, that muscle is what helps you smile, so placing Botox there would actually take away your ability to smile naturally. Filler brings up a similar issue. If we inject directly into the line itself, it can create a ballooning effect, almost like a little lump or hump, and over time that filler will move downward with gravity, which can actually create more sagging rather than less. It might look smooth at first, but it often ends up looking unnatural. So instead of treating the line directly, we look at where volume loss is actually coming from. Many people are losing fat and muscle in these areas, especially with things like Ozempic use or masseter Botox, and that volume loss is really what creates the appearance of extra skin and deeper folds. The key is restoring lift and structure around the area, not filling the line itself. I like to focus on the corners rather than the middle, using a combination of products like Radiesse, which is a biostimulator, and RHA filler, to create a natural, supported lift.
This is exactly the kind of thoughtful, technique-driven approach we bring to every treatment plan. It's not about filling in what you see on the surface; it's about understanding what's happening structurally underneath so the results look natural and age with you gracefully.
If this helped answer a question you've had for a while, save this post so you can reference it before your next appointment. And if you have your own questions about Botox or filler placement, drop them in the comments; I love breaking these things down.

Have you noticed more men in their twenties, thirties, and even forties dealing with low testosterone lately? You're not imagining it, and the reasons might surprise you.
A lot of men come to me confused about why their testosterone levels are sitting in the 200s at such a young age. One major explanation traces back to endocrine disruptors that became widespread starting in the 1980s. These include phthalates, PCBs, and PFAS, often called forever chemicals, along with hormones found in many meat products. Beyond that, everyday items like shampoos and skincare products can also contain ingredients that disrupt hormone function. Beyond environmental exposure, lifestyle factors play a huge role. Smoking and alcohol consumption have all been linked to lower testosterone levels. And we can't overlook the impact of chronic stress, poor sleep, excessive video game use, and po*******hy, all of which have been shown to contribute to declining testosterone over time. It's rarely just one thing; it's usually a combination of environment and daily habits adding up.
If any of this sounds familiar, the good news is you don't have to just accept it or guess what's going on. I offer testing so you can actually see where your levels stand, and I also offer alternatives to traditional testosterone replacement depending on what your body needs and what your goals are.
If you've been feeling off and wondering whether low testosterone could be part of the picture, save this post as a reminder to get checked. And if you have questions about any of these causes, drop them in the comments; I read every one. When you're ready, you can also book an appointment with me to find out exactly where your levels stand.

Have you been hearing about exosomes for the last couple of years and still aren't quite sure what they actually do for your skin?
Exosomes are essentially tiny packets of information that travel from cell to cell, telling them what to do next. They can come from platelets or stem cells, and in skincare, they signal your cells to produce more collagen. This can make a real difference for concerns like fine lines, old scars, and hyperpigmentation. What I love about this category is that it improves skin texture without injectables like Botox or filler, making it a great option for people who want results without needles, or for anyone looking for solid maintenance between other treatments. One product I've been talking about for a while now is Plated, which uses bottled exosomes from platelets. It's become one of my favorites because it only takes one pump, no complicated multi-step routine required, and I've genuinely seen it make a difference in my patients' skin, from wrinkles to brown spots. I also recommend it after in-office procedures like Morpheus, SkinPen, or laser treatments to support the skin as it heals.
This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking option we love bringing to our patients: tools that support your skin's natural healing process and give you real results without unnecessary steps. If you're curious whether something like this fits into your routine or your recovery plan after a procedure, we're happy to walk you through it.
If you've been curious about exosomes or wondering what could take your skincare routine to the next level, save this post so you can reference it later. And if you have questions about whether this could work for you, drop them in the comments; I love answering these.

What you might actually look like with a little Botox or filler before committing to anything? Now you can find out in seconds.
One of the biggest hesitations people have before trying Botox or filler is simply not knowing what the results will look like on their own face. That uncertainty keeps a lot of people from even starting the conversation. That's why I'm excited to introduce our new AI simulator through Entity Med. All you have to do is take a photo, and it analyzes your face using real patient data, not just a filter effect, so the results you see are realistic rather than exaggerated. You can toggle different areas on and off, like the midface, under eyes, lips, cheeks, and forehead, and use a simple slider to compare your before and after. It's a fun, low-pressure way to actually visualize your options before making any decisions.
Once you've played around with the simulator and found what interests you, whether that's filler, Botox, or something like Morpheus, you can request a free consultation with me directly through the tool. Just leave your phone number and email, and we'll reach out to walk you through personalized recommendations based on exactly what caught your eye.
I would love to see what areas interest you most, so try out the simulator and let me know in the comments what you're curious about. And if you're ready to take the next step, go ahead and request your free consultation. I can't wait to help you feel confident about your options.
Disclaimer: Simulated results are for visualization purposes only and are not a guarantee of actual outcomes. Individual results vary based on anatomy, treatment plan, and provider recommendation. Please consult a licensed healthcare provider before beginning any cosmetic treatment.

Estrogen Dominance in Perimenopause: Why Your Hormones Can Feel So Unpredictable πΈ
If your periods suddenly become heavier or irregular, or youβre experiencing breast tenderness, headaches, fatigue, or changes in weight, you may hear the term βestrogen dominance.β
But what is actually happening?
During perimenopause, estrogen and progesterone can fluctuate significantly. Ovulation may become less predictable, which can change progesterone production and contribute to changing hormone patterns and symptoms.
You may also hear about supplements such as DIM, calcium D glucarate, probiotics, and fiber for hormone metabolism and elimination. However, supplements are not a one size fits all solution, and evidence for using them specifically to treat βestrogen dominanceβ is limited.
The bigger picture is understanding your symptoms, menstrual pattern, health history, and whether hormone therapy or other treatment options may be appropriate for you.
Your hormones are not simply βtoo highβ or βtoo low.β The transition can be much more dynamic than that.
If youβre struggling with perimenopause symptoms and want to understand your options, book your FREE consultation with Ohana Medspas or Dr. Carolyn Candido.

Injectors: Stop Treating Forehead Lines on Autopilot π
Forehead Botox is not simply about finding a line and injecting it.
Understanding the anatomy behind the movement is what matters.
The line of convergence helps us understand how the frontalis and glabellar muscles interact. When treating forehead lines, injection placement and dosing require careful consideration of:
β’ Frontalis function and eyebrow elevation
β’ Individual brow anatomy
β’ The relationship between the forehead and glabella
β’ Risk of brow or eyelid changes
β’ Maintaining balanced, natural-looking movement
Going too low or treating the forehead without considering the glabella can change the way the brows move and may contribute to an unwanted brow shape or eyelid heaviness.
This is why I teach injectors to understand the βwhyβ behind every injection, not simply memorize injection points.

Healthy Body Fat: Is Cutting All Carbs Really the Answer? π΅π
When we're talking about body composition, resistance training is an important piece of the puzzle because maintaining muscle matters as we lose body fat.
But here's where I want to clarify something about the Filipino diet:
You don't necessarily need to eliminate all carbohydrates.
Rice, fruit, beans, vegetables, and whole grains can provide important nutrients and fiber. The bigger concern is often the amount of added sugar and highly refined carbohydrates coming from desserts, sugary drinks, pastries, and refined grains.
A more sustainable approach can be:
π₯© Prioritize adequate protein
π₯¦ Fill more of your plate with vegetables
π Be mindful of portions of refined carbohydrates
π Choose higher fiber carbohydrate sources when possible
ποΈ Include resistance training
π§ Choose water instead of sugary drinks
π΄ Prioritize sleep and recovery
And remember, a βhealthyβ body fat percentage isn't one universal number for every person. Age, s*x, genetics, muscle mass, and how body composition is measured all matter.
The goal isn't simply to weigh less. It's to build a healthier, stronger body with habits you can actually maintain.
If you want a personalized approach to weight management and body composition, book your FREE consultation with Ohana Medspas or Dr. Carolyn Candido.

Botox Forehead Lines: Why Injection Placement Matters π
Did you know where Botox is placed in the forehead can affect your eyebrow movement and overall expression?
The forehead muscle, called the frontalis, helps lift the eyebrows. When treating forehead lines, I pay close attention to the line of convergence and the surrounding muscles.
Why?
π Injecting too low can reduce forehead muscle activity and may affect eyebrow position or eyelid appearance.
π Treating the glabella, or β11 lines,β along with the forehead may help maintain a more balanced result for the right patient.
π Your natural eyebrow anatomy matters. There is no one injection pattern that works for everyone.
My goal is not simply to erase every line. It is to understand your anatomy, preserve natural movement when appropriate, and create a balanced appearance.
Save this for your next Botox consultation!
