Communication for anything in life is essential - here are some tips to effectively articulate to your makeup artist what you’re looking for on your wedding day:
- “The Look”: Bring pictures of yourself wearing makeup and inspiration pictures. So many brides say “I want to look like myself”. Perfect we can go with a natural look but some also like a bit of glam as well but not overdoing it. So if we see pictures of how you already do your makeup, we can get a better idea of how much or how little makeup you want to wear. Some brides even say “I want all the glam!!”. Okay that’s great but “all the glam” to one bride can be completely different to another bride, and that’s okay!! That’s why inspiration pictures help too so we can get a better idea of what you have in mind.
- If there’s something you don’t like, speak up! Our job as a makeup artist is to make you feel your best! If you don’t like a shade of blush when we ask, tell us! We do not get offended! We want you to be happy!!
- It’s also important to communicate if your skin is dry or oily as the day goes on while wearing makeup. When prepping your skin we can use products to help target those concerns so your makeup stays flawless all day!
A trial is key, especially for a bride. Day of the wedding you are on a schedule and it’s so important to stick to that schedule so there are no delays. When you have a trial we have more time to explore different options, if needed, and come up with a game plan for the big day. We can always make changes too! When your trial is complete I always write down every single product used so when your big day arrives and you want to replicate that exact look from the trial we can do just that!

You’re engaged 💍 yay! Let’s get planning! Once you have your wedding date booked, it’s time to reach out to your vendors! For makeup it’s so important to provide me with the following information:
- Wedding date
- Location of where you’ll be getting ready (venue, house, hotel)
- How many people need makeup done
- What time your photographer needs you ready by (usually you won’t know this until a few months before the wedding, but it’s helpful to have an idea as this determines start time and if a second makeup artist is needed)
I offer two different makeup services - airbrush and traditional. Airbrush makeup is when the foundation is applied through a machine and sprayed onto your face for a flawless finish. Traditional makeup is when the foundation is applied with a brush/sponge. Both services include skin prep, desired makeup look and strip lashes, if requested. Once you decide to book with me, I will send you a contract to review and sign.
It’s also a great to book a trial before your wedding so we can meet, discuss what you like and don’t like in terms of makeup .. of course you can always vent to me if you need to about other things! Then during the trial, I walk you through the entire process and at the end of the trial, I write down every single product that was used so we can replicate the exact look for your wedding day if you want! Some brides decide to change it up, that’s what trials are for! Some brides even save their trial for their engagement shoot or bridal shower!
A few weeks before the wedding I will circle back with you to check in and re-confirm the time your photographer needs you ready by, if there are any changes to the people getting their makeup done (did someone last minute decide to get their makeup done? Trust me this happens far too often and even the morning of the wedding - I am always happy to add someone as long as we have the time for it!!!) Then I will come up with a schedule for the day of and send to you to review.
Being a makeup artist is not just “doing makeup”, there are so many behind the scenes items that need to get done! But my job is to make everything seamless and stress free for you the day of your wedding!
