The time has come. A 16 yearlong era ends. I have been very humbled by this experience since day one, and the last month has not been easy. There are not enough words to express my gratitude, but I'll give it a try anyway.
Throughout being in business for 16 years, I have employed over 30 individuals. Some hung around for years, a couple lasted 1 shift, and 1 even snuck out the back door never to be seen again! The stories we have would fill a book. A lot of weird things happen on Loder Street... in a tanning salon. Many of these employees had their first job at Rose's Tan. They've come and gone, and some even returned. Some took off to college, new cities and towns, started their careers, got married, started their own little families, and some even started their own businesses. I couldn't be prouder to watch them flourish beyond my little salon. The skills learned while working in a customer service environment are unmeasurable. And I know there are 30+ people out there with shelves full of towels that are folded meticulously and stacked beautifully! Thank you.
To IT involved individuals, Thank you. I have learned to always POWER OFF and RESTART first, sometimes computers need a reset.
Sales reps from all over... The conversations will never leave me.
To the advertising arena: TJ, forcing me to do my own radio ads cracked my shell. I still cannot stand the sound of my voice but coming to chat with you was always my favorite thing to do each month. I miss you, dearly, and love seeing you make moves out in ROC.
To my parts and lamp guy, Craig at Ryco Tanning Supply. We've still got work to do, but I can never thank you enough for the knowledge you have imparted on me over 16 years. The time taken to teach me all the things has been insurmountable. I will certainly miss the hours of talking about business, electronics (I don't know how I never got zapped), and life. I wish you well, my friend.
To my mom, Patty. You've been my rock, my sound board, the person who gets all my frustrations, excitement, sadness, joy, and rage. Without you, I would not have been able to do this for so long. You show up when someone else doesn't, you get things done no one asked you to do, you treated this as your own, and I will never be able to show how appreciative I am for you for that. You continued to show up when you physically should not have and never complained. You were the backbone of this operation. I love you. Thank you.
My friends and family, near + far. Simply coming in to sit with me while I am slaving away, grabbing towels to fold and finding out how nuts I really am about them, cleaning beds, being an ear for me to vent, and being a walking advertisement for me. Thank you. I love you all.
Closing this chapter isn't easy, but it's time. I have read messages and listened to people, and the one thing I am sad about it is that I am closing down a service that meant something to a lot of people, and for that, I am sorry. There are a lot of things I would have liked to do to evolve this place, but I also feel like I have expired as a business owner. I want to be more available for myself and it's just time.
I thank you for the support, the loyalty, the kind words, the conversations, the memories, and the lessons learned. Owning a small business is everything BUT easy. If I could ask one thing from everyone reading this, it would be to make a habit of writing a nice review when you have a good experience at a business, expressing what you appreciate from others more often, and to be kind. Business owners are fighting battles you don't know about, and those kind words make the blood, sweat, and tears feel lighter. If we spread kindness more often, we could drown out the negativity from others, quiet our own thoughts, and relieve some stress. Life can be better, if we do better.

We have reached the end of an era.
It is with much consideration and reflection that we have decided that it is time to close the doors to Rose’s Tan on Loder Street.
For 16 years, I have poured my heart and soul into Rose’s Tan, and now it is time to re-prioritize where that energy goes. I have made it my mission for 16 years to keep a luxury service affordable for our small community. However, this is becoming more challenging to do with the rising costs of necessary expenses to remain open.
Our last day in business will be December 31, 2025.
Some immediate things I need to address:
CURRENT VISITS/PACKAGES : You have plenty of time to use them up; we will be operating normal hours until closure. You may give away visits if you have too many to use yourself. I can do this through messaging, phone calls, or in person. We will continue to sell single sessions throughout the month. Our smaller packages will be available for a couple more weeks. December 1st will be the last day to purchase a MONTH UNLIMITED Package.
VIP MEMBERSHIPS : For those of you who draft on the 1st, business runs as usual. Your account will expire December 31st. For those of you who draft on the 15th, your account will expire on December 14th, and you will not be charged on December 15th. Contact me directly with any questions regarding this matter, privately.
GIFT CERTIFICATES : If they haven’t expired, you can redeem them. If you are unable to use the package they were written for, we can exchange the value for products or discuss a redeemable option.
I have always been accommodating and flexible and will continue to do so as this chapter closes. Please call the salon or send me a private message to discuss questions or concerns. I ask for your respect and patience with my employees and myself as we navigate through this.

16 Years.
It’s like a roller coaster ride owning a small, seasonal business selling a luxury service in a small town.
The tanning industry has changed a lot since we opened our doors. From age limits to health department regulations and fees, scrutiny over the “dangers” of tanning to the birth of the Sunless Revolution.
Product quality has evolved from simple tanning lotions to hypoallergenic options to skin care. There’s so many options and choices to meet everyone’s needs.
There’s UVA and UVB light, Red Light, Infrared, Aqua Therapy, CryoTherapy, and more. There’s a lot of change happening in this industry with a focus on Wellness, and I don’t hate it.
As if that wasn’t enough to keep up with, all small business owners have been shocked by the rapid and continuous rise in minimum wage and shipping costs. And let’s not forget the lasting effects of COVID. Owning a brick and mortar business comes with expenses that get overlooked by the general public: payroll, machine maintenance, marketing, electric to name a few. We live in a time where the work ethic I was raised on is disappearing. Respect is gone, and the customer service arena is a battlefield.
Will I continue to adjust to the changes? Will I continue to persevere? Or will I move on to something new? Time will tell.
I was 26 years old when we opened. I am 42 years old now. I matured here. I’ve raised my kids here. I’ve watched you grow up, get married, have kids. I have watched your kids grow up. I have seen you go through hard times, good times, and sad times. My most favorite thing about this journey has been the conversations I have had with so many wonderful people- the ones where your 12-20 minute tan session turn into an hour (iykyk😉).
I am grateful for the ride. I am thankful for the support. But I am tired. I don’t see another anniversary in my future, but until that decision has been made, we encourage you to come use up unused packages and saved visits while you can. There will always be deals to grab if that is what our future looks like. Come chat, I’ll talk about my thoughts and plans.
