Rose's Tan

The time has come. A 16 yearlong era ends. I have been very humbled by this experience since day one, and the last month has not been easy. There are not enough words to express my gratitude, but I'll give it a try anyway.

Throughout being in business for 16 years, I have employed over 30 individuals. Some hung around for years, a couple lasted 1 shift, and 1 even snuck out the back door never to be seen again! The stories we have would fill a book. A lot of weird things happen on Loder Street... in a tanning salon. Many of these employees had their first job at Rose's Tan. They've come and gone, and some even returned. Some took off to college, new cities and towns, started their careers, got married, started their own little families, and some even started their own businesses. I couldn't be prouder to watch them flourish beyond my little salon. The skills learned while working in a customer service environment are unmeasurable. And I know there are 30+ people out there with shelves full of towels that are folded meticulously and stacked beautifully! Thank you.

To IT involved individuals, Thank you. I have learned to always POWER OFF and RESTART first, sometimes computers need a reset.

Sales reps from all over... The conversations will never leave me.

To the advertising arena: TJ, forcing me to do my own radio ads cracked my shell. I still cannot stand the sound of my voice but coming to chat with you was always my favorite thing to do each month. I miss you, dearly, and love seeing you make moves out in ROC.

To my parts and lamp guy, Craig at Ryco Tanning Supply. We've still got work to do, but I can never thank you enough for the knowledge you have imparted on me over 16 years. The time taken to teach me all the things has been insurmountable. I will certainly miss the hours of talking about business, electronics (I don't know how I never got zapped), and life. I wish you well, my friend.

To my mom, Patty. You've been my rock, my sound board, the person who gets all my frustrations, excitement, sadness, joy, and rage. Without you, I would not have been able to do this for so long. You show up when someone else doesn't, you get things done no one asked you to do, you treated this as your own, and I will never be able to show how appreciative I am for you for that. You continued to show up when you physically should not have and never complained. You were the backbone of this operation. I love you. Thank you.

My friends and family, near + far. Simply coming in to sit with me while I am slaving away, grabbing towels to fold and finding out how nuts I really am about them, cleaning beds, being an ear for me to vent, and being a walking advertisement for me. Thank you. I love you all.

Closing this chapter isn't easy, but it's time. I have read messages and listened to people, and the one thing I am sad about it is that I am closing down a service that meant something to a lot of people, and for that, I am sorry. There are a lot of things I would have liked to do to evolve this place, but I also feel like I have expired as a business owner. I want to be more available for myself and it's just time.

I thank you for the support, the loyalty, the kind words, the conversations, the memories, and the lessons learned. Owning a small business is everything BUT easy. If I could ask one thing from everyone reading this, it would be to make a habit of writing a nice review when you have a good experience at a business, expressing what you appreciate from others more often, and to be kind. Business owners are fighting battles you don't know about, and those kind words make the blood, sweat, and tears feel lighter. If we spread kindness more often, we could drown out the negativity from others, quiet our own thoughts, and relieve some stress. Life can be better, if we do better.
