This lovely client traveled all the way from Australia to have her hair colored by me. Her hair had been colored with very dark brown boxed color for many years. I began the extensive process by trimming a couple of inches off the length and crafting a cut with gorgeous, voluminous layers. Next, I initiated the removal of the artificial dark dye by applying K18 Hair chelator to eliminate all metals and minerals from the hair. Following this, I used Pravana color extractor to strip away some layers of the dark color. I then applied K18 mist to repair prior damage and shield the hair during the subsequent lightening process.

The lightening process began by bleaching the entire head, starting from where her gray roots began, in foils. I worked meticulously, taking very thin sections and using Redken Flash Lift Power 9 with 20 vol for 2-1/2 hours. After an hour and a half, I carefully reopened each foil, applied a new lightener mixture to the warm areas, and continued the process until achieving the lightest pale blonde shade. The hair was then rinsed, pre-toned with Redken Shade EQ 10T and a drop of 10VV mixed with processing solution for 20 minutes, followed by toning with Pulp Riot Hair silver speed toner and 6 vol. The toner was mixed at a ratio of 1 part toner to 5 parts 6 vol and left on for 15 minutes. For low lights, I used Matrix SoColor Sync 6T.

After shampooing (and skipping conditioner), I applied a K18 leave-in mask and K18 molecular repair hair oil to repair the hair and restore its health, while also providing protection from heat styling. I sent the client home with a K18 leave-in mask to use for the next five consecutive shampoos and then twice a month thereafter. The entire transformation took a total of 10 hours.
