One question I get asked frequently about extensions is whether or not you can grow your hair out with them.

The answer is: absolutely, yes!

I am not someone who believes that we can ignore the health of your hair once your are in. It’s super important to me that I and my extensions clients continue putting special care into the health of the hair.

All you need is a stylist who knows how to safely install extensions ➡️ mixed with the knowledge for how to care for your extensions ➡️ and the dedication to follow all care instructions.

I used 3 packs of k-tips to give this beauty a density makeover and color revamp. She lost a lot of hair over a year ago and has been patiently waiting for it to grow back in, but we sped up the process within 4 hours by installing 70g of Bellami k-tips. 🧜🏼‍♀️

One of my favorite looks to give my clients is that sun-kissed dimension. The kind that’s brightest around the face and slowly darkens as you look towards the back of the head, like she’s been at the beach with her hair in a ponytail all summer.

It has lots of depth and dimension, mixed with believable pops of brightness. And it grows out seamlessly like a dream 😍

We love a good color + extensions transformation 🔥 This was my first session with Kayleigh, and she asked for me to take her back to her natural color with a bit of pop around the face.

The top 3 things I look for when I’m installing extensions:

1. Density - you want the density of the section to be enough to support the hair being installed. Taking smaller sections can make it look prettier, but it won’t be good for the health of the hair if it can’t support the weight of your extensions!

2. Crosshairs - Sections need to be suuuuuper clean, because there is nothing more irritating and uncomfortable than a crosshair 😫

3. Consistency - I want my stitches to be evenly spaced out so the weight is evenly distributed. With k-tips, I want my rows to be nice and evenly aligned so it’s easy for you to brush.

All of these things make a huge difference in your ability to comfortably wear your extensions, maintain them at home, and ultimately keep your hair healthy!

Even adding just one pack of k-tips can totally change the way your hair lays and styles.

For Katelyn, she has a TON of hair on the back of her head, but the front is much thinner. She’s always wanted a strong weight line for the front of her hair, and after 2 hours in my chair and a pack of k-tips she has exactly that!

I also love the dimension the extra hair gave her. So many possibilities with extensions 😍

Lived-in dimension is totally possible on hair that has been treated with permanent color.

My sweet client, Sandy, was referred to me after a bad color experience. All she wanted was some lived-in, natural looking dimension, but instead she walked away with chunky, orange streaks.

She’s been covering her greys with permanent color for years now, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have lived-in color that isn’t brassy!

Her color has been a work in progress over the last few months, but I’m loving the path we’re on. ❤️

I started cosmetology school horrendously unqualified. My only experience with hair was cutting my bangs with the assistance of a Youtube tutorial and giving myself ugly curls. I had never used a round brush in my life.

Most of the other students in my class were child prodigies who had been coloring their friends hair for years, or whose entire lineage was made of hairstylists and they were born in a hair salon. 🙄 To say it was intimidating would be an understatement.

I finished EVERYTHING last and had no clue what people were talking about when we were going over face shapes, tones, and celebrity hairstylists.

BUT I had passion. I had drive. I was teachable. I was hell bent on figuring it out and doing it over and over again until I got it right.

That is all that matters, folks. I don’t care how unqualified you feel, if you are passionate about something and you remain teachable, you 👏🏻 got 👏🏻 this 👏🏻 ! 90% of the time, the only person that will hold you back is yourself.

Stef got some k-tips, and we are LIVING for the volume and density! All she needed was 1.5 packs to feel a huge difference in the thickness of her hair.
