Sometimes going lighter doesn’t go as planned and that’s okay.

My client came in with previous box color that lifted very warm and exposed a lot of red. Instead of fighting the hair, we worked with it by toning it down to a medium blonde. Sometimes the best result is choosing the color your hair is ready for.

If you want to color your hair dark after your blonde color grows out, that’s fine. Just don’t use permanent hair dye. Permanent dye doesn’t necessarily last longer, it fades the same as demi-permanent. The only time you use permanent hair dye is when you’re trying to lift your natural hair or cover gray hair. If you are just going darker, you would use Demi-permanent. This makes it easier to lift your hair when you want to go light again. Permanent is a little more challenging to lift and may result in unwanted or uneven tones.

My client embraced her gray hair once it became too much maintenance to keep covering it, and honestly, I think she may have inspired me to do the same.

Instead of a full gray coverage, we chose a demi-permanent color to softly blend her grays and tone them into a deeper silver gray. This is lower maintenance, softer grow out lines, and a color that works with the gray instead of constantly fighting against it.

Aging isn’t the problem, finding a way to wear it confidently is. ❤️

No bleach needed, just high lift color for a softer, brighter look with dimension and keep the integrity and shine of her natural hair.

My client came in with subtle dimensional highlights and wanted to switch it up with a red balayage + black roots.

Our goal was to get her to a level 6, so I went in with HD-RV + 40 vol since the rest of her hair was virgin, and it lifted beautifully. Even though the lift was clean, I still toned with 6RV + 5VV to even everything out and create that rich plum red she was envisioning.

Let’s talk about the panic moment.
When I was rinsing her color out, that deep red on wet hair looked SO dark (refer to second photo). I had to remind myself that level 6 always looks way darker when wet and to trust the process.

I even dried a small section first just in case I needed to redo it, but once it dried, it came out exactly how I wanted. (Phew)

These are the moments that humble you real quick and make you question everything for a second 😂 but also remind you why you love what you do.

My client was obsessed, and honestly, so was I ❤️
