Saunawelt has been nominated for Houston’s Best 2026 in the Sauna Therapy category.

For a little European sauna house that welcomed its first guests only a few months ago, it’s a genuine honor to find ourselves among just ten Houston-area nominees.

We created Saunawelt from a love of European sauna culture and a desire to bring its traditions to Houston — authentic löyly, the ritual of Aufguss, and beautiful places to linger and rest, with the creek and surrounding nature becoming part of the sauna journey.

Some books arrive at exactly the right time.

I bought Sauna: The Power of Deep Heat by Emma O’Kelly when it was first published, at a point when Saunawelt was still only an idea — before I had written the business plan, and while I was beginning to imagine what a public sauna house in Houston could look like.

My own copy is heavily marked up — notes in the margins, ideas underlined, pages folded back — because alongside my own travels and experiences with sauna in Europe, this book became an important reference in the conception and development of Saunawelt.

Its pages move through sauna culture around the world — from Aufguss and bathing traditions to the deeper role sauna can play in rest, connection and wellbeing.

It has lived on my own bookshelf through the building of Saunawelt. Now it feels especially fitting to have it on ours.

You do not need to know anything about sound bathing — or even be an experienced sauna-goer — to find out.

During 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 + 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗵, Katrina Hunter of Live Being U will lead three live sound rounds inside our Finnish sauna. Singing bowls and other instruments are played as you sit in the heat, followed by time to cool and rest before returning for the next round.

For those who already love sauna, it offers a completely different way to experience a familiar practice. If sound baths are more familiar territory, this is a chance to experience one shaped by the cycle of heat, cooling and rest.

And if both are new to you, that is perfectly fine too. There is nothing to learn beforehand — simply come and experience them together, on your own or with someone you want to share it with.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon nearest the autumn equinox, traditionally associated with the close of the growing season. This year it falls the day before our gathering — a fitting moment to take stock of what has grown, what has been learned and what is worth carrying forward.
