Let’s talk about “peach fuzz” and “dead skin.”

Because what the beauty industry often calls flaws… are actually essential parts of healthy skin.

Vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) isn’t useless — it serves important roles:
- Helps protect skin from environmental stressors
-Supports moisture retention
- Acts as part of your skin’s sensory and immune system

Removing it repeatedly can disrupt the skin’s natural balance and increase sensitivity over time.

And that outer layer everyone calls “dead skin”?
It’s not truly dead.

Those cells:
-Communicate with deeper skin layers
- Help regulate hydration
-Support your microbiome
- Protect against irritation and inflammation

When we aggressively remove this layer — through treatments like dermaplaning — we’re not just “exfoliating.”

We’re also:
⚠️ Weakening the skin barrier
⚠️ Increasing water loss
⚠️ Triggering inflammation cycles
⚠️ Creating dependency on repeated treatments

Healthy skin isn’t about removing more.

It’s about supporting what your skin is already designed to do.

Your skin is intelligent.
Your barrier is protective.
And your peach fuzz is part of that natural system.

Beauty isn’t about stripping things away, it’s about working with your skin, not against it.

⚠️ Why Dermaplaning Is Problematic

One questionI receive a lot about skin services is about dermaplaning. So let's talk about it... It's a waste of your time and money and not good for your skin, my personal opinion. The facts.

There is a LOT of misinformation in the beauty industry about vellus hair and the so-called “dead skin layer.”

Let’s break it down in a clear, skin-biology way.

🌿 What Is Vellus Hair (Peach Fuzz)?

Vellus hair is the fine, soft, almost invisible hair covering most of your face and body.

Its REAL purposes:

1.) Barrier

* It acts like a micro-shield against:

* Dirt
* Pathogens
* Environmental pollutants
* UV exposure

Think of it like tiny sensory antennae + dust filters.

2.) communication system

Each hair follicle connects to:

* Nerve endings
* Immune cells
* Oil glands

This helps your skin:

* Detect touch
* Sense environmental changes
* Trigger protective responses

Removing it repeatedly can disrupt this sensory signaling network.

3.) regulation

Vellus hair helps:

* Hold a micro-layer of sebum on the skin
* Slow water evaporation (TEWL)
* Maintain the acid mantle

Without it, skin often becomes:

* More reactive
* More dehydrated
* More inflamed

Why Do People Remove It?

The beauty industry promotes removal for:

* “Smoother makeup application”
* “Brighter skin”
* “Better product absorption”
* “Exfoliation benefits”

Most removal methods include:

* Dermaplaning
* Facial shaving
* Threading
* Waxing

But these claims often ignore skin biology.

🔬 The Truth About the “Dead Skin Layer”

The outer layer of skin is called the stratum corneum.

It is commonly called “dead skin” — but that’s misleading.

Here’s what’s actually true:

They are NOT biologically inactive

These cells:

* Send biochemical signals
* Regulate immune responses
* Communicate with deeper layers
* Control inflammation levels

They are better described as:

👉 "Terminally differentiated living barrier cells.”

They form a critical barrier system

The stratum corneum controls:

* Water retention
* pH balance
* Microbiome stability
* Protection from toxins and bacteria

Removing too much weakens the entire skin system.

⚠️ Why Dermaplaning Is Problematic

Dermaplaning removes BOTH:

* Vellus hair
* Surface corneocytes

This creates several issues.

1.) Barrier damage

It causes:

* Increased TEWL (water loss)
* Compromised microbiome
* Heightened sensitivity

Clients often report:

* Temporary glow → followed by dryness or breakouts

2.) Increased inflammation

Repeated dermaplaning can lead to:

* Chronic low-grade inflammation
* Thinner barrier function
* Reactive skin patterns

3.) Disrupted cell communication

When you remove the stratum corneum prematurely:

* Keratinocyte signaling gets disrupted
* Skin shifts into repair mode
* This can increase oil production or irritation

4.)Dependency cycle

Skin becomes:

* Less efficient at natural exfoliation
* More reliant on external removal

This creates the classic cycle:
Smooth → reactive → dull → repeat service

🌱 What Skin Actually Needs Instead

Healthy skin thrives on:

✔ Supporting natural desquamation

Not forcing it.

This includes:

* Proper hydration
* Lipid balance
* Gentle enzyme activity
* Microbiome support

✔ Respecting the barrier

The goal should be:
Function over temporary smoothness.

When the barrier is intact:

* Skin looks naturally radiant
* Texture evens out over time
* Sensitivity decreases

The Big Reframe

Instead of thinking:

❌ “Remove dead skin and peach fuzz for better skin”

Think:

✅ “Support the intelligent protective systems your skin already has.”

Because:

Vellus hair + the stratum corneum are not cosmetic flaws — they are essential biological defense structures. Now you know.. do what you will. I do not offer the service because of my understanding of the bodies workings and my goal is to help your skin help itself. Not need to help it more. 😘 I could make a lot of money by offering it but that would defeat the purpose of my purpose.

Overhyped ingredients and products to be skeptical of:

Hyaluronic acid — pulls moisture in, but can actually dehydrate in dry environments.

Vitamin C derivatives / “stabilized” C — require heavy chemical scaffolding to work, increasing your chemical load.

Multi-step routines — layering 10+ products rarely improves pe*******on; it often irritates sensitive skin.

Encapsulated or nano-engineered actives — forcing molecules deeper often disrupts the barrier.

Trend-heavy serums and oils — more chemicals ≠ better results.

WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS:

Simple, minimal formulations that support barrier health

Lipids and oils your skin recognizes

Anti-inflammatory botanicals and antioxidants in bioavailable forms

Hydration and moisture support without forcing pe*******on

Intentional, consistent care rather than “more is better”

Bottom line: Great skin doesn’t come from hype. It comes from supporting your biology, protecting your barrier, and respecting the skin’s natural intelligence
