I hadn’t seen this client since 2017 or 2018, when I was still in beauty school.

After all these years, he found his way back into my chair. As I assessed his locs, I noticed thinning in several areas and signs that the maintenance methods used over time may not have been supporting the long-term health of his locs.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that loc maintenance isn’t just about making the roots look neat. Every appointment should support the integrity of the loc and the health of the scalp.

This is why I always say: focus on the long-term health of your locs, not just how they look the day you leave the salon.
