She was going to be someone's Christmas dinner, but when she unexpectedly gave birth, the people raising her saw her as a mom and no longer a meal. It's Menorah and her babies' rescue anniversary 🎉 Four years ago, founders Ellie Laks and Jay L Weiner drove from California to Washington over the holidays to bring this new mama pig and her tiny babies back home to The Gentle Barn. When they first arrived, Menorah was still nursing her piglets and was defensive around our sweet male pig Honey Bear, but after months of working to make her comfortable with him, she let go of her past trauma and they became very close before he passed a few years later. Menorah and her piglets are grown now. They love resting in their sand pit and cuddling together in their hay beds. They enjoy cookie balls and popcorn parties and pumpkin smashes in the fall. They blow bubbles in their pool when it is hot and snuggle under blankets in the winter. They are quite talkative to each other and to us. They wag their tails when they're happy and roll over for belly rubs. They're social, intelligent, affectionate, and clearly love their life. It's thanks to your support that we were able to rescue this incredible family of pigs and give them the best quality of life—something we wish for all animals.
