Neat and elegant bun for my beautiful bride Kimberly!

Funny story about her headpiece - originally Kimberly was going with glam waves for her wedding day hair style but last minute decided on a bun. Her headpiece that she had was a long, thick headband and she was just not going to wear a headpiece for this style since she didn’t have one. I had a different vision! I told her to let me cut the original headpiece whether it was with scissors, pliers, or my bare hands. I’ll do what I have to do to get my brides their perfect hair style …. This is the headpiece that came out of breaking apart her original, it looks like it was always meant to be there!

A big question that comes up as your wedding date gets closer …. “ how long will hair and makeup take for me and my bridemaids? “

Every hair stylist and makeup artist is a bit different, but for our team we schedule 30 minutes for makeup services and 45 minutes for hair services for the bridal party/ moms/ attendant.

For our bridal services we schedule 2 hours. 1 hour for hair and 1 hour for makeup. Gotta get that extra pampering in & ensure the look is perfection!

All these years of working weddings, I also have learned that building in 30 minutes of extra “ buffer time “ is super important. We would always prefer to have you done early and hanging out than needing to be rushed out the door.

How do we establish a start time? I typically go by what time your photographer needs you ready by and work back about 30 minutes.

lights - camera- makeup!

You ever wonder how your makeup will look on your wedding day? As a makeup artist, lighting, time of year, time of day, and your photographer’s style will play a huge role in the end results.

- LIGHTING :
Lighting is so important in how the makeup will read in photos, if you’re shooting during the middle of the day, early afternoon in the summer you’ll be getting that neutral warm natural light. However, if your getting married in the winter that same timeframe the lighting will appear cooler. Daytime photos can also wash out the makeup, hence why even if you say you want natural makeup, we are going to still do a little more than natural because we don’t want you to look washed out in the images. Blush, bronzer and colored lipsticks are great ways to add some color to the face and make it not look flat!

- PHOTOGRAPHER :
Every photographer has their style of photography and that’s what makes them amazing. Some photographers use more filters in their editing and this can drastically change how the makeup appears in person vs. in photo. Also the photographers shooting style can range from artistic, traditional and lifestyle shots which can also change the mood of the makeup.

- INDOORS VS. OUTDOORS :
Pictures done outdoors are going to give a person more availability to light, unless their in a room that has good neutral lighting and large windows to let the natural light into the space. Indoor photos are going to make the makeup look different than outdoor photos. This all goes back to the lighting and how well the room is lit and what color lighting.
