We had a packed house for our create-your-own bingo card activity. Hopefully using their own creations will bring them all luck!

“Just one in a crowd”

This is Charles. He was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan & enjoyed 23 years there with his three older sisters, until moving to Arlington Heights, Illinois. Charles fondly recalls playing baseball & football with his neighborhood friends & even singing in his grade school choir. He had previously worked as a paper boy, then he went into the restaurant business by doing everything from bussing tables to cooking, prior to his arrival here at Deer Path. It was while living at a rehab facility in Elgin, that a former Deer Path resident/ his roommate suggested that he check out our community, and he’s been happily living here for 6 years now. Not only does he enjoy his independence and the staff, but he also loves having his girlfriend living here as well. Charles doesn’t sleep much, so in his free time, he patrols the halls after dark, turning off tv’s, lights, etc., that have been left on, and making the coffee for a special group he’s part of that meets three times a week. When asked what he’s proud of, he quickly replied that besides his relationship with his girlfriend, he was also pretty good at building telescopes in his past. Charles is a very easy-going, understanding person and it’s a pleasure having him here.

In September, our Route 66 snack was the Sonoran hot dog popular in Arizona. We gave everyone a plate of the ingredients and turned this into a build-your-own. There was some hesitation to try when they heard the list of toppings, but in the end everyone enjoyed it.

October 1 is National Jiffy Mix Day which made baking group easy. Everyone made their own box of Jiffy corn muffin mix.

We had a great time at our Oktoberfest celebration. Our maintenance team served up grilled polish sausage, hot dogs, and chips and we also offered root b**r floats and soft pretzels.
