ENOUGH: STOP CALLING IT MASSAGE WHEN IT ISN’T MASSAGE.
I’m going to say this plainly because enough is enough.
There is a growing problem on Facebook, Instagram, Marketplace, and massage groups: profiles with little or no professional training, certification, proper treatment space, or professional ethics advertising “relaxation massage,” “sensual massage,” or “massage with a happy ending,” often using provocative photos, lingerie, or sexualized content.
That is not professional massage.
And it directly affects those of us who have invested time, money, education, and dedication into practicing this profession properly.
A professional therapist invests in education, anatomy, hands-on techniques, hygiene, professional products, proper equipment, and a safe, private treatment environment.
Others may invest primarily in a provocative picture.
And who does the algorithm reward?
Often, the content that gets the most clicks—not necessarily the person with the most training.
Is that really how we are supposed to compete?
The problem is twofold:
1. It misleads clients.
Someone may be searching for sports massage, therapeutic massage, or a deep tissue treatment because they have muscle tension, soreness, or pain.
Instead, they may find an advertisement that suggests something completely different.
When the service isn’t what the client expected, it damages trust in the entire profession.
2. It can put people’s health at risk.
A poorly performed massage isn’t simply “a massage that didn’t work.”
Incorrect techniques, excessive pressure, lack of anatomical knowledge, or poor hygiene can cause injury or other problems.
That is why proper education and professional standards matter.
If someone wants to offer adult services, that is one thing.
Using terms such as THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE, SPORTS MASSAGE, or BODYWORK to attract clients who are looking for legitimate professional care is something completely different.
Professional platforms should clearly separate these categories.
At a minimum, we should have:
🔹 Separate categories for wellness/massage and adult services.
🔹 Better protection and transparency for consumers.
🔹 Clear expectations regarding professional training and credentials.
🔹 Clients should feel comfortable asking:
What technique do you use? What training do you have? Where do you practice?
A professional should be able to answer with knowledge, technique, and transparency.
Professional massage therapists don’t need to sell our services through sexualization.
We are supported by education, technique, hygiene, ethics, and absolute respect for the human body.
Many dedicated therapists are working hard to build legitimate practices while sexualized content uses the word “massage” simply to attract attention.

“How do you always know exactly where it hurts?”
And that question stayed with me.
Because people don’t always tell you exactly where they feel pain. Sometimes they simply say, “My back hurts,” “My neck hurts,” or “Everything hurts.” 😓
So during the massage, we start noticing small signals: how the client positions their body, how they breathe, how the tissue responds to touch, and whether one area feels different from the others.
Those small signals give us information.
It’s not guessing. And it’s not having a sixth sense.
It’s learning to “see” with your hands. ✋
