This weekend was the FINAL Cohort 29 and Cohort 28 weekend of the semester before classes are complete and we celebrated with an ugly sweater party! It feels so good to almost be done with this semester’s assignments. One more paper to write and it’s a wrap 🎁! Cohort 29, one semester down and more to go!

It was a pleasure to lead a chair yoga session at IU Indianapolis’ 2025 DoSA Wellness Retreat. Supporting the Division’s vision for a self-care moment is something I’m happy to be a part of. Reiki, tea blends, and making essential oil blends were also part of the day long event. I look forward to attending next year’s wellness retreat.

The time spent in Dayton, Ohio at GLACUHO was nothing short of amazing and I expected nothing less. I had the pleasure to serve on GLACUHO’s I&E Committee as well as Committee Restrcture Taskforxe. While working in the exclusive Housing profession, I’ve had the pleasure to make close friendships, create meaningful connections, and build sustainable ideas. GLACUHO 2025 was my third GLACUHO but it was full of many firsts. I’m excited for the growth and change to come!

With Higher Education being attacked by the current administration, we must be intentional in preparing and encouraging our young scholars to continue their education. This opportunity is coming up, and some seats are still available. Please share with young scholars you may know and their parents and or guardians. We expect this workshop to cover a multitude of questions and motivate them to start working on this process.

It was a pleasure to lead a planning committee of DoSA staff for the third time for this awesome event called The BASH at IU Indianapolis. This unique event was a great success and students were able to connect with resources and meet the staff in their departments that can help them with specific needs while on their educational journeys. These resources included mental health, financial, accommodations, food insecurity, housing, and other wellness services at free of charge to the students. The diverse range of students who participated included first-generation, graduates, transfer, and international students who were able to learn about these resources, have fun, listen to music, and eat great food! What an experience! It was a great time at IU Indianapolis!

The last day of AABHE was filled with community and new friendships made. I’m very grateful to have been a part of the Research and Dissertation track and to have witnessed the final keynote of the evening by Dr. Joseph Silver who explained to a T, the current political events that are impacting Higher Education as we know it while reminding Higher Education professionals that it’s our duty to remain vigilant, to resist policies and procedures based on inequity, to speak up, to advocate, and to fight for Higher Education for all without external negative influences. That means institutions should resist signing The Compact, we should continue to push towards equity in student success, we should bring people with us when we are elevated to the next level, and continue to do our part PLUS a little bit more. I’m looking forward to future AABHE conferences. It was a pleasure to be in the number this year!

It was a pleasure to participate in Day 1 of the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education Conference in Indianapolis Indiana. Great discussion topics, community, and unique breakout sessions made today a day worth remembering and I’m grateful to have been able to join this conference in-person for the first time this year. Taking a picture with these wonderful women who both PhinisheD and are in the process of obtaining their PhDs from ISU’s Higher Education Leadership PhD program was one of the highlights of the day for me as a part of Cohort 29. Glad to be in the number with other Black Higher Education Leaders.

It was an amazing time and privilege to present this week at the 2024 Annual GLACUHO Conference. It never ceases to amaze me how social work can have an amazing impact on Higher Education if given the room and opportunity to do so.
