Detangling your hair is a key step to hair maintenance. It’s an extra step that when not done at all or properly adds unnecessary time to hair appointments while also hindering your hair growth.
The amount of time that gets added on to an appointment when clients come in with very matted and tangled hair can be anywhere from 30 mins to over an hour. Which is why most stylist ask that you come in detangled or have a detangling fee added.
Detangling YOUR hair is YOUR part in hair maintenance. Clients and stylist have to work together to achieve your hair goals. HELP US HELP YOU!

The Starting Line Up
Almost every service I offer includes these products
Free of oils and products does not equate to free of moisture! This is why I choose to start every service with a shampoo and conditioning treatment to set the foundation.
Our hair needs moisture. Hydration.. WATER.
It needs water to grow and thrive. So imagine going 3.4.5 or 6 weeks without any. When it finally gets the chance to breathe is tired. It’s weak. It needs some love.
No matter if we’re wearing protective styles our natural hair, or silk presses, we have to take care of it .
While wearing protective styles at least every 10-14 days you should be shampooing your hair. The buildup being creating daily at your scalp is clogging your pours and the lack of moisture throughout your braid is dehydrating your natural hair strands.

Scalp health is so important and is necessary for hair growth, moisture retention and healthy hair. Hair will and can only thrive and grow out of a clean foundation aka scalp.
The less scalp that is visible the harder is it for it to breathe and be cleansed. The myth that dirty hair grows faster…. EEEEEYUCK who started that?! Hair is gonna grow regardless because that’s what it does. But how much of it can you keep and what’s actually healthy are two totally different things!

The idea that braids are damaging is something that sits on my heart so heavy. And I’m ready to change the narrative. Silk press specialist and hairstylist that don’t offer braids as a service are literally at war with braiders and the educator in me cringes at the thought.
Most times your lack of maintenance as a client and the lack of knowledge of your braider is where the problem lies.
What’s most important is knowing the difference in a hairstyle and protective style! I’ll get into examples of each in the next round!!

Full moment of transparency. My next chapter is scaring the entire F**K outta me. I feel like I’m in a place where passion and necessity are at a cross and my survival instincts are starting to kick in. I’ve committed to seeing what the next month brings and that’s about as far as I can see right now. The remainder of what I have available for April outside of what my clients that pay for early access have booked will be available tomorrow at noon and I’ll tell you now. It’s SLIM. As a stylist I wish I could make myself available for everyone that wishes to book. As a person I’m asking for grace as I figure out what’s what over the next few months. As an educator if there ever comes a time I have to do what’s necessary for myself and my family, know it’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. I wear a lot of hats and they are all attempting to be the main character in the story right now 😩 just send a few up for me.
August books are now open. Be advised I will be on vacation 8/14-8/24 so availability is limited and is exactly what you see. Also September booking will open 8/25 which is the last Monday in August.
